My '74 880, still in original paint. The red paint is a bit faded, and looks better on the picture than it really is.

Just changed out the decals from the silver that had been on it while it slept for 20 years to a stark black. I like the contrast. That white(slightly off-white) paint has been on there from the previous owner for about 30 years. One of the first things I was going to do after getting it back up and running was change the paint to early 70's mega sparkle red. The white has grown on me and it is in really good shape. At a recent gathering of about 12 Nortons, we had 1 orange, 1 green, my white one and at least 9 Black and Gold. It certainly stands out in a crowd.

My 71 Roadster, number 145224, was built on 6th April 1971 as a Roadster model. Its build colour was black and it was despatched to the Norton Villiers Corporation on the 7th April 1971. I've had since Xmas. Bought from San Francisco, now residing in New Zealand.

According to PO was new in USA, but did have a brief trip back to factory in UK for rebuild at some stage. Later on was refreshed by a dude from the bay area who specialises in Nortons? Would be keen to hear any prior history if anyone can help?

Since I bought it I replaced cracked barrel with new barrel - 850 style bored to 750 - hence no visible barrel studs. Getting things sorted piece by piece. Is a rider, not a garage queen, and I hope to take to Burt Munro next month.

Lives with a 1984 Suzuki Katana and 2008 BMW K1200S. But they haven't had much use since the old girl has been up and running....

Here's my 850, after yesterday's club ride:

It's a rider, not a trailer queen, and has various cosmetic flaws such as the rattle-can painted flat black header pipes. It runs fantastic with that new CNW coil kit though. It never did run right with the PVL coils that I binned. I think they were bad right out of the box. All good now though. :D

Debby, I see that like a lot of people you've eliminated one of your front fender stays. I'm curious why you elected to go with the front one. I'm putting mine on today and was going to go with just the back one... was wondering if there is vibration when leaving the front off.

My 72' 750 Combat, before and after. Before was taken three years ago this coming Thursday (the 18th)... after was taken an hour ago (Oct 15th). Now all I have to do is figure out why it won''t start.

grandpaul is correct, the stay did not clear the custom brake caliper so I removed it. No issues with vibration. The Mk3 doesn't use a front stay, also because of caliper clearance. If you bought a brand new fender from your favorite parts dealer it would be undrilled at the front.

So go for it!

Cool! I much like the cleaner look but was worried about vibs. I put the rear one on after this pic was shot.
