Good looking bike . You didn't like the black rims ?

Beware, when I picked up my 961SP in May the salesman warned me about riding on salted roads ruining the rims, he was right. 10 days at the Manx riding in the usual rain did them no good at all , lots of black stains front and rear. Half a tube of Autosol + a few hours polishing with microcloth got them shiny again, now wiping over with ACF50 and watching closely. Other than this no problems in 1500+

For sure, I buy Autosol by the dozen lol..

Autosol is very coarse and doesn't offer much in the way of lasting protection either. You'll get better results with Mothers Mag & Alu.

I've used Mothers, never found it gave any useful protection from our salt covered roads. While taking much longer to bring up a decent shine on dull alloy.

Nothing that looks nice provides any real protection for bare alloy from salted roads IMO.

This is the best protectant I’ve found, it ain’t polish though, so you just have to accept the ‘oily rag’ look until spring comes. But it does protect well.

Autosol leaves the aluminium tanks looking like they've been polished using an old nylon shirt. From what I've found, Mothers outranks them all for shine, and maintaining it from oxidation. No polish will protect polished aluminium from salt, even more so with the polished rims on the 961 which tarnish ridiculously easily.

I've had a couple of alloy tanks from TAB2, both got painted after awhile, as in use they scratch way too easily. Keeping an alloy tank looking good is a never ending job...

The Tab tanks, from the ones I've worked with, are actually much more forgiving than the Norton 961 aluminium tanks when it comes to polishing.
I'd never used Mothers until I started at Norton....now I get through shit loads of the stuff. Tried various others, but never impressed by the final shine. Autosol I do still get through, but used more as a cutting compound on a rotary.
Considering the motorcycle cleans are offered as complimentary, I spend far too much money on products and far too many hours doing it.
For black paint work, I 100% recommend Poorboys Blackhole. Been using that for many years on my show car....if you've got a black 961, buy a bottle of it, I guarantee you'll be impressed.

Its not so much the shine on the alloy tanks, more the many small scratches they pick up in use. Paint is much easier to maintain imo. I did have a tub of Mothers a few years ago, that I was given, I inadvertently left the lid off for a few weeks, came to use it only to find it had dried out and was unusable. Got mates with Harleys who use Mothers, but always thought it was because it was an American brand, they'd seen in the Harley magazines / sites they read.

Yeh don't disagree. On my tank I cut a wee bit of PPF to make an invisible tank pad which worked perfectly....only issue is that it was maybe 10mm too short and there's a few scratches above where it sat. I'll make another one over winter now I have a guide on how big it should be.

That was after only 800 (ish) miles so they do mark easily but the overall look (for me anyway) is well worth it

I used Mothers until I found this stuff. It’s a close run thing but this seems to give better results, including on the TAB tank, engine casings and exhausts. I’m even spreading it on my toast in the mornings! Never tried the liquid version.

Also used liquid reflection to good effect.

Another option for black/dark vehicles is this. Used it for years on my Defender which has some "patina" as it's used like a Defender should be!

It's also local to me, made on site, etc etc.

Seaside jaunt today! Meant to be a quick 100km blast and back to get on with the day. Spent around an hour and a half riding and just as long talking bikes’n’bs, at a local bikers cafe! More calories and conversation consumed than miles!

First run out for the new tail unit. It didn’t fall off! Bonus!!
