Pictures of your Norton Commandos

So I drain the last gulp of my forth pint and turn to my good friend and say “you know, you should sell me that Norton project you haven’t gotten to for the last ten years”…. And he did. Dam it!

Looks like she was a real looker in the 70’s, baby blue frame, full Dunstall bodywork and combat heads. Good chance it was a racer in the beginning.

It also looks like the last owner was a hillbilly that only owned a (metal) hammer, a pair of vice grips and a can of black spray paint. It’s been sitting for around 30 years from what I know. The frame was bent, it has no electrical system and everything is worn out of specification. Not to mention all the missing & broken parts.

After three months of disassembly, cleaning, inventorying & polishing I’m almost at ground zero. If I ever get the frame and crank back from the shops I can get started rebuilding. Hope I’m riding her by spring 2014!

Too bad someone cut your Dunstall fairing and dash trying to make the handlebars work w/o installing clipons. Still a beauty, though.

Pictures of my '73 Commando 750

I have acquired the bike in 2000 as an Interstate. I restored it myself. I converted it to a Roadster two years ago.
A few pictures of the actual (Spring 2013) incarnation of it.
Single carb conversion, RGM 12'' Floating disc, RGM Master cylinder sleeve, AP CP2696 Caliper, Girling shocks

Nice job Fritz. My first Norton was a black 1973 750 Roadster. Did my first "Ton Up" on it.

73 850, Finally got it running properly, had to replace the harness, how much a commandos like this going for? not that I would ever sell it just for insurance purposes.

Has, tri spark ignition, single coil electronic conversion, new tires, new clutch, new electronic regulator/rectifier, new wiring harness, electronic warning light assimilator, powder coated frame, rebuilt master cylinder, will have all new rubber foot pegs on tuesday, rebuilt carbs, k&n intake, rebuilt front shocks, two brand new exhaust tips, new throttle and clutch cable, and a bunch of other replacement parts to long to list

here we go with zee Dunstall bodywork sans rearsets because I don't have the correct exhaust mounts. Yes the 810 barrel isn't on there currently, but dad says wear the sidecovers with pride anyways.

Wow, that's one of the nicest looking MkIIIs I've seen in a while! nortncom, congratulations on a smashing bike!

Are they Norman Hyde rear sets? How do you find them to live with (not easy finding rear sets for a MKIII)? Also what shocks have you got there and do they work as good as they look? Hope mine looks half that good when it eventually emerges from the shed... :mrgreen:

How do you find them to live with (not easy finding rear sets for a MKIII)? Also what shocks have you got there and do they work as good as they look? Hope mine looks half that good when it eventually emerges from the shed... :mrgreen:

crusadersports, thank you for your compliments. The rear sets are made by Norman Hyde, and I really like them (comfort and looks). My MKIII is also fitted with a Hyde oil cooler as well. The rear shocks are made by Progressive--and yes, they work as good as they look. I actually have been contemplating purchasing another set because my current ones, have, over the years, accrued nicks and scrapes on the spring coating. I really like the look of the black and red spring setup over the typical polished springs.

My 72 Norton Combat with 35K on the clock. Owned this for 10 years now. When purchased it had 17K on the clock. Still have contact points. Usually a first kick start up. This past winter I installed new adjustable front & rear isolastics and MKIII head steady with spring. Swing Arm upgrade also. Very enjoyable now to ride, less vibration.

This is the bike as I purchased it from the third owner from new, 14k miles, unrestored but repainted and with Mikuni and Boyer conversions. Lots of minor repairs without full restoration since and now a good runner, oil tight.

Hi notncom, I tried to PM you but may be you didn't get it? I emailed Progressive about those shocks and they said they didn't sell direct. I was wondering if may be you might be able to source me a pair of those shocks- I really like them. Alternatively if you're thinking of replacing yours becuase of the odd nick or scratch that doesn't worry me and may be we could do a deal? Please send me a PM. Many thanks.

Well, I just tried to sell mine (which is similar to yours in many respects) on eBay and the bidding only got to $5600 - twice. Somebody on here in the wanted section is asking for a "classic black Norton". And, that seems to be the problem! People (who don't have clue differently) think a Norton has to be back to be authentic.
- IMHO.

Anyway, your's is a cool bike, and in the spirit of "I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours" ... Here's a pic of my classic not-black Norton
