Pictures of your Norton Commandos

Hi guys - been a while since I have been around...bought a 2004 Kawi ZRX1200r new in 2005 and put the Norton downstairs in the basement to redo some cosmetic issues that I wasn't happy about.

I rebuilt the 1975 Mk3 from the ground up from 1999 - 2002 and put 15,000 trouble free miles on it - nearly every last nut - bolt - washer is stainless. During the recent tear down I discovered a few hidden problems - one of my custom made Venolia pistons developed a hairline crack so they got junked - looking to go back to twin carbs as well - and of course we couldn't have a Mk3 restoration without the proverbial exhaust system issues!

This time around I sourced some of Matt Rambows (CNW) trick parts - hydraulic clutch, O-ring chain conversion, tri-spark ignition and coil and new handlebar controls.

Looking forward to getting to it over the winter - hopefully on the road next season!

Cheers! :D

Welcome to the forum.
Strangely enough I found that taking the picutres and posting them with a progress report and narrative seemed to boost my motivation

I took a ride to one of the clubs that has live blues bands on Sunday afternoons good beer and blues, surprised when I got there that is was an event day and they had several vendors and a couple hundred bikers, nearly all Harleys

Thunder Roads was one of the vendors and the ladies agreed to pose for a photo.

That's why I advocated for the "Member's Projects" section here and on a few other forums; I believe it's one of the very BEST motivators, and a big part of why people come to forums like this one.

I liked this picture enough I thought I would save it here. Packed for the last trip in 2014

it is a sad fact that most bike events are over loaded with Harley Ferguson's. same thing when I mention I am going for a motorcycle ride the usual response from some twit is "oh you have a Harley" to which my answer is "no I have a motorcycle".

also a shame for some pretty gal to mess her self up a bunch of ink. oh well looks like scooter trash now.

Welcome to the forum.

Another disaster in the making...don't be swayed by the "slippery ones" on this Forum....JMHO...

That "disaster" has been running fine for almost 9 years.

And "slippery ones" don't pay up when something goes wrong.

Please keep this topic friendly and on track. I would hate to have to lock it after all this time.

Last ride of the season. We left with damp roads from an early-morning rain. Of the eleven bikes that showed up, I was the only one on a British bike. Granted, the flat-head HD with side hack was pretty cool!

The '72 Yamy was nicely set off by the Fall colors.

'Happy to report that the Norton ran the seventy miles without a hitch. That was even with ten miles of rain late in the ride.

So, now it's off to the shed for a long winter's nap, with a 3-phase and re-sleeved master cylinder in the planning.

Here is my Norton racer just after engine rebuilt, last May. Slimline featherbed, box swingarm, belt primary, Pazon ignition, PW3 camshaft, Black Diamond valves with special springs, polished alloy conrods, lightened rockers, seriously modded crankshaft, Dunstall exhaust, etc...a LOT of fun to ride:

And this is the bike as it is now, after 1600miles with its full Dunstall fairing:

Also, new to the forums, so hello!

Winter is fast approaching here so sadly the 3 Nortons have been locked away for the winter. Usually I have the 2 projects to stare at in the basement and the Combat winters in a corner of the garage. But this year with building a house and getting my current house ready for sale, all my toys have been packed into a 10 X 20 storage unit. Spring and New house completion can't come soon enough.
