166 mile ride today and a nice day to be out. I'm guessing when I drain the airbox there'll be 166ml of oil in there

Well I drained the oil and there was a lot more than the 100ml to a 100 mile ratio I'd worked out before. The bike had been sat for 5 weeks before I did yesterdays rideout so maybe that added to the amount but I drained off somewhere near 400ml of oil

Wow. That's a lot of oil. I don't have the little bottle, but have a larger nipple from the airbox with a slightly larger diameter clear tubing. I get a few drops accumulate after 150 miles of spirited riding. Rev up to 6500 and maybe cruise at 4700. My level hasn't visibly changed in 1800 miles since my last oil change. Then again, with the previous problems I had, quite a few upgrades were done.

That needs fixed. I have ridden 12 hundred miles since my fix. All of mine have been pushing it to the upper rev limit. I have about 3mm of oil in the small catch bottle, no leaks and nothing in the airbox.

Holy Crap, 400ml!
At that rate your airbox will become your backup oil tank.
I only have a slight drip from the airbox drain, nothing serious.
However, I intend to do the factory airbox fix over the winter.
Looks like you need to do this too.

Richard-7 said he and his Dad have a fix that involves some minor machining of the head and barrels.
I hope he will share this fix with the Norton Factory.

Hello Der , Did you notice how much oil you have wet sumped prior to starting and driving the bike ? A very important part of this fix involves stopping the wet sumping. If you had a bunch of oil in the bottom when you started off , this will push out to the box more oil than usual. Check the oil level in the tank first before you start the engine and then if you see a very low oil level you must let the oil pump back up to the tank before starting off (let it idle a long while and check the oil level multiple times) ... I suspect all of your oil was in the bottom end (every bit of it). Better to get the oil in air box fix and solve it. After the fix , the oil in air box is very minimal . I would not hesitate to go on a cross country run now . I still check and drain my air box , more from habit then anything else. I still get a little oil in there but it would take many thousands of miles to even consider a draining necessary . I am satisfied with this fix.!!! The Norton air box satisfies the needs of AHRMA racing. The crankcase breathing vent is completely contained in the airbox and can be drained when necessary. I am becoming less sensitive to those still complaining about this when the fix has been well documented. BUT I am very glad you still have the Norton !
