Pictures of your Norton 961

Great looking workshop - don’t see the beer fridge though!!

What chassis spares are keeping you off the road with the Domi, for such a long period?
Just the fact that no spares are available for the Domi at all.

I replaced the rear cush rubbers, because the factory had the rear wheel misaligned by over 4mm.
This was causing it to feel like the ass end of the bike to feel loose, especially around corners. Dog tracking.

I was lucky that the rear wheel hub wasn’t damaged from the cush rubbers being torn apart.

I've been caught out numerous times like that with my 1098, which runs the same thermistor low fuel warning set up. The fuel light would come on whilst riding home....no problem, got enough to get home. Won't run the bike for a few weeks, jump on and set off. A couple miles down the road the fuel light would come back on...no problem, got plenty....nope...run out 10 miles later. The thermistor takes too long to heat up again once cooled, to remake the warning light circuit.
I drain the fuel from all my bikes in the fall, change the oils and coolants on the water cooled bikes before winter.

When time came to take a bike ride on the commando, I totally forgot and didn’t even pay attention to the fuel light until I ram out lhaaa haaaaa.

The fuel light definitely worked, but I was to caught in the moment to notice until it was to late.

Yes it’s a personal taste, it’s like red wine color and if no sun on it it almost looks black…. I like it.. Exotic MV style, I’m not afraid from colors…

That’s a good point about the ABS, thanks for the heads up, I will ask BST about it now.
Thanks!

What factory told you this? Norton or BST?
Maybe @Stu Bodycote can put some light on this issue.
Norton factory, it will be interesting to see what information you can obtain from BST.

I don’t think BST will know anything about it as they manufactured carbon wheels for the older Norton.

No one here on accessnorton with carbon wheels on a Euro 4 ABS bike?

Anyway, I’m in contact with BST for the last few days and closed all details but now I emailed them with this issue so I will update shortly.

I don’t believe I’ve ridden the Domi since that picture was taken in September 26 2020.

A train load of spares would be great. Unfortunately, no such spares available for the Domi chassis.

The Commando was ridden once this past August, it ran out of fuel 3 miles from my house as I forgot to add fresh fuel after being stored the previous winter. 😂
Hi Voodooo , At least you had a chance to ride it. That is a long push home , hopefully you got some help. Did you consider putting a carbon fiber front fairing on the Domi ?

I ran out of gas in front of a farmers house. He gave me enough to make it to the gas station.

Never really considered it on the Domi, mine is a Naked so the carbon is matte finished.

Get where you’re coming from. I reduced my mileage down over the last couple of years because I knew spares may be difficult to get until Norton Birmingham came on line - may still be for a while. The other side of the coin though is that you may have missed out on a couple of awesome riding seasons, with a limited (chassis) spares requirement. Judgement call of course - especially when you have other bikes to ride.

Got to admire your commitment though Voodoo - no way on earth I’d be able to stop myself riding that smokin Dommie!!

I’m more comfortable riding the commando and my other bikes than riding the Domi.

If I ever dropped the Domi, I’ll never find spare parts. At least not the carbon parts and frame.

Spoke to Ollie about a full exhaust for the Commando. Waiting to hear back after he’s checking on the header pipes.
Also wish my command engine was black and possibly reinstall the black tank.

Looks better with black tank IMHO…

Yep that was my concern when I ordered the ally tank, that it can look a bit disjointed - especially on the black bike as opposed to the silver. For that reason I had always intended to take the silver/ chrome through to the tail unit in some way - to balance it out. Of course the TAB tanks are no longer available and I have the Thruxton fairing to include to the paint scheme. Happy fettling:D👍!

I’d keep the painted tank and color matched fairing.

Norton factory, it will be interesting to see what information you can obtain from BST.
I talked to some people, probably the reason that Norton said that is because they fought with BST like they fought with all the other suppliers because they didn’t had money to pay them anymore, so probably BST wouldn’t agreed to supply them wheels anymore so Norton just lied to buyers and said it’s not possible to fit the carbon wheels on the newer ABS models…
BST told me they know nothing about it that it can’t fit as all their wheels go to ABS bikes…
I will update next week with more information.

What does the tone ring mounting area look like on the ABS wheels?

Do these have front and rear ABS?

What was the first year for ABS?

My Commando is a 2016 SF
My Dominator is a naked. The vin code says it’s a 2016, but I remember the naked Domi being announced in 2017.

I’ve noticed other Domi nakeds outside of the USA to having ABS. So was 2017 the first year for ABS? I also recall on the Domi that the ABS was the reason for the axle mounted license plate holder mounting design change.

If I remember correctly, the ABS on the commando also made the 2 up seating mandatory. And also the reinforced rear seating area of the frame.

No.
BST supplied Norton right up to the end, with wheels and fuel tanks for the V4ss.

Stu do you know if BST wheel will fit an ABS 961 or Domi? And if not, why not?

The factory were quite adamant when I asked them… but no one knew why !

It has puzzled me ever since.

Cant answer you, as Ive never had to try. A guy on the 961 FB page tried it on his Domi, but ended up selling the wheels on again. Off the top of my head I cant think why they would differ, as they use the same brake discs. I've got a UK spec SE in, so I'll have a look over the weekend....see if anything is obvious. From memory the front wheel is listed for a Duc 748/916. Dont know about the rear.

Knowing what we know today about SG's shenanigans, I won't doubt that Norton would use such an excuse.

If the Domi, or Command ABS bikes use the standard sensor and disc as the other manufacturers, and I can't see why they wouldn't, then the BST wheels should work on any 961. The Diamond Tech model of BST wheel, which is the model being sold for the Norton, is designed for use on any current Sportbike/Superbike with ABS available today.

SG wanted owners to buy the wheels through Norton, so they could make an additional premium.
They would make nothing if owners bought the wheels directly from BST or a distributor.
