Great to see ya racking the miles up PB! Snowdon, and it wasn’t raining! Don’t think I ever achieved that on a bike😁.

You should update the mileage thread.

Quick 150km midweek blast out today - unusual but no less enjoyable than our routine Sunday exploits. The exceptions - less bikes than the weekend, obviously, but loads of retired old dudes blasting all over the place on a mixture of (mostly vintage) machines; on almost empty hinterland roads with absolutely no sign of ‘Plod’! Guess ya do get smarter as ya get older!

The CR behaved impeccably. Quick check on returning home found yet another jettisoned tank bolt:rolleyes:, and a loose single seat cowl - removed it and two of the plastic threaded bosses on the underside have cracked/sheared; should be an easy enough fix! She does like to shake, rattle and roll!!

Retired old blokes!! But I wasn’t out…😀

More chasing of my mates Eurofighter, in my Sopwith Camel !!

Interesting comparison in styling; heritage v hyper-sports!! Know which one I prefer but I can certainly appreciate the technology. Interestingly, although the Beemer is a recent import to Aus, the Norton got way more attention! But then I would say that would’nt I!!

Simple elegance vs Hyper Sport spaceship, 'nough said!
Incredible amount of angular plastic bits on the body work.
The Beemer has a frightening surprise for any unfortunate rider sliding off the back - over the seat.
Ouch! He's likely to lose the family jewels on that slicer.

Here is a idea I had for a new model 961 Commando : 961 COMMANDO - LONG RANGE

1. Higher capacity fuel tank - this one 4 US Gal. accessible range 160 + miles @40MPG - 6 Gallons ideal
2. Ergo handlebar setup for more comfort and control with soft rubber grips
3. Seat designed for longer days in the saddle with thick foam
4. Gearing optimized for higher sustained speeds with better fuel economy - rear sprocket 48T (optional) , 6 speed overdrive with stock 18/50 gearing ideal .
5. Footpegs designed with vibration isolating pads for enhanced comfort
6. Storage tank bag with tail bag options are available
7. Wind protection flyscreen (optional)
8. Suspension covers to protect fork seals and shock seals from rain/dust/debris
9. Sport Touring tires for enhanced tire life
10. A great time - MANDATORY

Tony,
Don't forget airbox removal kit, and improved breather system.
Seems to me Dr. Bob should hire you to design a touring version for the 961.

Don’t mention the bacon slicer BT ! Andy is a fettlling fanatic of old, for which he receives considerable ribbing. He designed and manufactured the belly pan on his BMW and the rear wing you see in the picture.

He sites the move towards rear wings in Moto GP and swears blind that he can tell the difference with it fitted - at road speeds!! I would imagine that many months of testing in wind tunnels and computer analysis/modelling went into the Aprilia one shown, as opposed to the Mark 1 eyeball in Andy’s case!

I suspect the Moto GP items are sacrificial and would simply shear off in an accident. Andy’s would take down an average sized gum tree in that eventuality! Not to mention the insurance implications and the potential prying eyes of PC Plod.

But we bikers like to personalise our machines and it makes him happy, so what the heck! It does have it‘s uses of course; it’s at just the right height to put my takeaway coffee cup on which I do at every opportunity😁!

Having had more than my share of high speed crashes on the track, and the resultant injuries, the images my mind conjures up of what the "bacon slicer" aero could do to my body would prevent me from ever throwing a leg over that bike, lovely as it looks otherwise.

And SS brings up a good point. Anybody know if the aero features on modern race bikes are specifically designed to break away to avoid injury in a crash? It would certainly seem like a good idea.

Ken
