Pictures of your Norton Commandos

My grandson brought his MK3 over to my place today to do a little maintenance and cleaning, and it looks so pretty that I had to post a picture. This is a project bike that we built together for him back in 2014 in time for us to both have bikes for the INOA rally that year. We've made occasional changes to it since then, and it is still going strong. It lived in my shop until this year, so I could also take it for a spin now and then, but this year he managed to buy his own place, so now it lives in his garage.

I'm assuming alternate switchgear to facilitate those mirrors??

Sort of. We used different switch gear to accomodate the aftermarket clutch and brake master cylinders, and used mirrors to fit them. We originally used conventional round mirrors, but the grandson later decided to go with the ones it has now. They don't work nearly as well, and he will probably go back to the conventional mirrors sometime soon. This is a picture of the controls and switchgear before changing to the weird mirrors.

The original build used even more conventional round chrome mirrors. I posted some more info on the original build in this thread back in 2015:

Where does the time go ... found these shots of my youngest taken some 16 years ago . A lot of water under the bridge since then . Both bikes have been over restored - ( the Commando survived a salt water dunking during Sandy ) - house got its feet & floor wet in Sandy as well and has since been lifted up with a nice shop underneath. And the girl in the pics is now a woman about to be married and works as a therapist in a large nursing home. During the peak of CoVid she was hands on with sometimes 50 positive patients a week - for months . They grow up much too fast and things like the pandemic mature them even faster but forge them as well . I’m a lucky guy .

My little girl turns 40 in Sept. , they do make it all complete …. You have a wonderful daughter and very nice bikes , a great pairing !

Here is my Commando (9/73) with his older cousin! It is very smoky here due to a forest fire that is destroying much of our national forest. On this day, the smoke was fairly high up.

Woo, the aluminum covers look great! Care to share your techniques and materials to get that shine?

While the timing and primary covers off for repairs, I buffed them out on a wheel using progressively finer grade materials. However, final hand polishing with Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish significantly brightened them up. It's good stuff. :)
