You know Kenny, if you are going to stay with a battery ignition you should re-install the alternator. You can make up the difference in weight by using a tiny battery then and you will no longer have to deal with total lost ignition problems. I lost one of the biggest races of the year-tied for 1st in sportsman- when my battery charger failed and left me with a half charged battery. Just enough for all but the last lap. Jim

I told Kenny a couple of years ago to go with lithium ion batteries from cordless appliances (like a drill), the best would be a higher voltage battery, 18 or 24 volts, and regulate them down to 12 volts. The batteries are fairly cheap, the chargers are now pretty "smart" and they would drive the ignition with full potential for a whole race even without an alternator. Did he listen :?:

As for best ignition, I favor Ignitech (post45190.html?hilit=ignitech#p45190). I have one on my RD400 and it has proven to be reliable and very easy to program, it is not plug and play as the others mentionned, but well worth looking into.

Have to agree with a lot of the above, Pazon(any model ) are good quality and easy to fit, reliable and not hugely expensive.
Andrew who makes them lives 20 mins from my house, so a no brainer for me. 1973 850 Stock standard, transformed the starting right from the second kick(left it in gear when timing it so firsy kick didn't work) have timed it to 31 degrees , use 6 volt coils and runs sweet all through the range.
Regards Mike

I just got the Tri-Spark the other day. Went deep into debt doing so too.
Now If I can just sell my soul I'll be able to afford one of those FullAuto heads.
What's a soul worth these days?

Not much. Not even as a trade in. Tee hee.

Seriously, the Tri-Spark is brilliant. No. I don't sell them but if you want a head, the new batch is on it's way to me now. Get 'em while they're hot.

The new Pazon Altair is a very very nice unit. All the benefits of idle stabilization (Tri-Spark) but with a remote mounted black box.

Hi Jeff,
I look forward to mounting the Pazon Altair: what spark plugs would you suggest with it?
ThanX for your suggestion!

Still running the good old Champion N7Ys on mine with Pazon Altair. (I bought it so it must be the best!)

My plug caps say NGK on them now though. OMG! Gotta get out the grinder and sandpaper.

I use PVL 6 volt coils, Magnecor 8mm leads and NGK IGR7A-G Iridium plugs. I am not using the supplied resistor plug caps.
My 850 MK2a is using a single Mikuni TM34 and an exhaust with no crossover.
Depending on your setup you may need to go up or down a range on the plug heat value.

Also note, the Pazon Altair is a step above their standard SureFire. The Surefire does not have the idle stabilization whereas the Altair does. It is also a few bucks more at around $185 and change, still well below the cost of the Tri Spark.
