What’s the best none Norton Norton ?

Just don't get caught out in the rain!
A friend and I made a trip to Oregon a couple of years ago.
He has fitted a fender eliminator kit, similar to the bike above. After two days of ripping around on lovely twisty backroads we were on our way home on the two Thruxton Rs when we were caught in a heavy rain storm about 250 miles across.
It wasn't pleasant for me but I stayed dry and warm with good rain gear and Sidi boots.
He was was riding under a cold waterfall off the back tire for about 4 hours!
His rain gear looked to be good quality but couldn't hold that waterfall out. It was also damn cold and very tough for him to see thru all of that water.

I was planning to install a
fender eliminator on my Thruxton but gave it a rethink after that trip.
Instead I might add some length to the rear of the front mudguard.
Having said that, my 920 Norton would be exactly the same, that is, horrible to ride in the rain. Bobbed back end looks cool tho!

Wonder how many Norton 961 owners have a ‘turn key’ second bike - 90%+ I reckon! Maybe not as much of a necessity with the new SP.

My none Norton Norton is not remotely Norton like, but to its credit has never let me down - ever!
Like most I’ve had many bikes over many years and almost always several in the garage at any one time. As such, not sure whether any of my earlier machines ever reached 100k. The mighty 990 did today - happy 100th birthday old girl!

Think we’ll have a celebratory beer or two to mark the occasion! That’s barely run in for this machine - many more to come👍!

Wonder what the chances are of sneaking one of these beauties into a gap in my garage, without ‘er indoors’ noticing?! Slim at best:rolleyes:! Doesn’t stop a man dreaming though!

While I’m a confirmed Duke guy , the special pictured above is a bit , over the top I guess for me …now the big BSA single that is one cool bike 😉

Wouldn't have minded one of the Donington 650's if they had eventuated, couldn't wait long enough for whatever is next from Solihull so this is the best i could come up with.

I’ve never ridden one of those, what’s the power delivery like? I’m imagining it’s quite revvy?

I did sit one and push it around and was impressed how light it felt.

I only have 500km on it so far so revs limited to 6000 but very impressed to date. Limit will be 9000 rpm plus after the first 1000km.
It pulls well from lowish revs, air intake is below the fuel cap so the rider gets a nice induction roar, has ABS/Traction control/cruise control all switchable on the fly. Despite the 21" front wheel it turns well on the sealed twisties and tracks well in the corners. Conclusion so far is that is the best bike i have owned so far.

Only ever owned one Ducati (998 way back in its day) - find this special pretty appealing though.

Don’t know much about the engine, but this is one purposeful looking cafe racer!

A/C is my preferred method , had one Duke with liquid cooling , between that & plastics , service was time consuming , the 992 AC unit is a gem , great tourque , almost 100 hp , no redline😎 , both of these bikes just under 400 lbs wet , the GT being much nicer to live with & ride than the monster …

Hi , I can see it when I launch it on my end. Are those cam belts supposed to be covered ? Nice bike I was expecting it to be air cooled when I saw the styling .
I have always kept belt covers in place , sure they look good gone nitI think there a reason why Ducati covers them …

Got it, when responding the link (for me) goes to random eBay parts.

Really like that - a very tasteful build indeed - lovin that rear end. I bet that is an awesome ride. Of course the clutch will rattle like a bag of spanners but it’s supposed to right! Very nice!

Reckon I’d still have my 998 if some b@#^&d had’nt stolen it!

What’s up with the exposed cam belts ? Style ?
Function? ( weight saving , cooling , finger mangling… )
