The next new Norton...

That's weird, I thought I had replied.
Well I love it and I reckon its a great first bike from their design team.
I cant really see that being a lowly 185hp is going to hurt them, I think more and more people are getting fed up with the dick waving power race. 185hp is more than enough for 99% of riders.
I think this bike will give them a good springboard to get established and bring in some more new stuff like the Atlas. With the V4 sorted I see nothing to hold the Atlas motor back really
Onwards and upwards, well done Norton.
I’m feeling it too. I’m a sucker for a CR and with 185HP (and that stance) it’s likely to need the steering damper tucked behind that rather suspect bikini fairing. Always loved the look of that ass end and the sweet looking exhaust is a winner for me; not sure how that will meet Euro 23 though…. or whatever number we’re up to now!

I’m a cup 3/4 full sorta guy when it comes to Norton and I think we’re gonna need to see it in the flesh. “It’s a yes for me…………..you’re going through to the final”! Just hope that it doesn’t get trounced by the opposition.

Long live Norton.

A friend recently sold his flawless Thruxton r and kept his 961.
He also has a whole inventory of old Brit bikes.
The other day, when wanting to go on a long ride, he commented that he has all these bikes and none capable of the long ride at the moment....
I find breakdowns really boring.

He did the wrong thing, for the right reason.

I'm not that far off when it comes to heading off on a long tour.
I've got bikes that could possibly make it, others that should make it and 3 that will make it.
Those in the could make it group are also the vibratory group so I would likely turn around and head for home at the 100 mile mark, if not sooner!
In that way, they are capable of a round trip by making things unpleasant and brief. Insanity really, but we keep doing it.

I just think that if I owned TVS Norton, and I was ramping up business with a new model, I’d hit the gates running and pull out all the stops to build excitement with the customers that could be.

I would design a bike with equal or better power ratings.
I would fit it with the Ohlins active suspension.
I would fit it with Brembo Stylema calipers.
I would fit it with the lightest materials and of the highest quality.
I would offer it in 2 models.

Then I would offer where the market is going, adventure bikes are hot right now. Even Harley has one. TVS should at least build the Atlas line up.

I would also offer a “retro classic” such as the 961 but with more displacement. Keep it air cooled too.

I know I know. I’m being impatient.

How many Mv Agustas do you see riding around?
Well, I guess that depends. Our annual MV gatherings (pics below) bring out quite a number of bikes as well as owners from many countries. I also have several local friends with MV's. I do understand your point though, as they are quite a bit rarer than Ducati.

That said, I see Norton's naked V4 as a competitor for MV's 4-cylinder naked bike - low volume, high priced (likely), and superior to Ducati, Aprilia and KTM on finish and appearance (subjectively speaking). While MV wants to compete with Ducati, Aprilia and KTM in Super Naked performance, and though the MV Brutale 1000RR is rated at 213HP, it is not quite on the same actual performance level of those 3 brands' bikes (see YouTube Naked Bikes shootout below).

And thus, I would suggest that Norton could find themselves either chasing the proverbial lap time battle with Ducati, Aprilia and KTM, or compete with MV in the arena of exclusivity and moto art. The former is a far greater challenge that is wrought with frustration, and still may not result in greater sales volume if they fall short in performance.

Let's just see if Dr Bob can roll out some V4's to customers without the wheels, or anything else falling off.
Let's see some truthful motorcycle road test reviews of the V4 that are positive.
The badge name will guarantee exclusivity.
Don't worry about power comparisons with established brands.
If the product is good, there will be plenty of time and resources from Norton to "hot up" the bike.

I think it looks great. I have bought into the Norton brand with my 961 and despite many issues, I am still very fond of it. I am hoping the new incarnation does very well and I hope they produce some bikes in the future that I would be tempted to buy.

Whilst this is not a model/style I am currently looking for, I would be tempted but the price tag would have to be near the KTM 1290 super duke. They cannot make a suceess of the brand if they think they can charge near £30K for something like this. They are a successful indian company that have bought a brand, that doesn't earn them the right to charge silly money unless the bike proves to be top notch

I like it, I think. Super curious what the cost will be. Also, looking at it for some reason I can only see Johnny Five.

Let’s start the bets on the price then.

I’d say £30k+.

And… is it only me who thinks its been styled to look partially like an EV (deliberately I assume, paving the way for their future offerings) ?

I recon the V4CR is going to be £30k plus as well. I'll actually go out on a limb and say it will be closer to £40k.
