The next new Norton...

So the 1967 Stockholm (and Earls Court ?) show orange seat has been remembered but used in the wrong way ;)

The next new Norton...

It should have the higher sport bars as an option . Or will that be another model ? Is the suspension lower spec for a cheaper asking price ?

I think we may be missing a key point of exclusivity and heritage. I ride with a mate on a V4S (which he rides well, but nowhere near its capacity) and we see more Ducati’s than you could throw a stick at - oh look, another Ducati! But if something more exclusive or out of the ordinary thunders through the bikers haunt you watch the heads turn. We bikers like to stand out, that’s why we accessorise and personalise. As an Englishman, a big thundering Norton over ‘everybody and their grandma has a Ducati’ - every time thank you. Don’t even get me started on the big 4. Can’t remember the last time I even stopped to look at a blade or an R1. And let’s face it, is there anybody on this forum capable of using that extra 23 HP?

Long live Norton
You make a excellent point, I couldn’t agree more. My only point is, why not make the new Norton a competitor performance wise as well. How many Mv Agustas do you see riding around?
If TVS Norton is talking about the history of Nortons dominating TT wins, and Nortons history of performance, why don’t they bring that to the new model and to the current times?

According to Norton, their posted specs are not competitive with other bikes in the same line up.
What I mean is, other bikes in the same model category have more horsepower, more torque, active suspension, lighter, etc.
Do you wish your 961 had 20 more horsepower? I do.

I’m with you on the “not everyone has a Norton” and you don’t see them like other bikes while out riding. But I think, Norton has the opportunity to bring more to the table and to make a big hit.

Hmmm… not what I was hoping for. Kinda good news really, saved me the stress of wanting one !
Ok, so basically a standard V4 with:
1. No fairing
2. Orange fanny pads
3. Classic styled front fender

Totally Underwhelming!

Let's see the next (second) concept, and think hooligan.
Third time is usually the charm.

Maybe we‘re all just the wrong demographic…
Maybe, but this apple didn't fall very far from its tree.
A slightly Cafe'd-up V4 ain't gonna do it.
If the designers need inspiration for a hooligan, just study the Touno, Super Duke, Monster, etc, and do them all one better.
Norton should put out several concepts, not one, and get feed back before they commit to a design.

Fair point. SG asked prospective customers what they wanted from V4/2 650 concepts and we said Atlas please, in two guises’. Still hopeful TVS will follow up on that market research.

That's weird, I thought I had replied.
Well I love it and I reckon its a great first bike from their design team.
I cant really see that being a lowly 185hp is going to hurt them, I think more and more people are getting fed up with the dick waving power race. 185hp is more than enough for 99% of riders.
I think this bike will give them a good springboard to get established and bring in some more new stuff like the Atlas. With the V4 sorted I see nothing to hold the Atlas motor back really
Onwards and upwards, well done Norton.

Errr…. 3 guises if you please… still hoping for my Superlight…
FE, soz my bad.
However, I don’t recall the SL being a product of customer research. It appeared from Hastings House as a baby SS offering to my memory.

I'll have to play the interview with Dr. Bobby again, but I was certain that I heard him say that other models including the SL were currently being researched.
Or was that just another of my LSD flashbacks from the 70's?

He did indeed say that. So we shall see…

I might be being a tad crude here, but I kinda thought the SL was little more than a parts bin special… chassis and body from the V4 with a (hopped up) engine from the Atlas. So there’s not a massive R&D effort required and they get to nail another nice little niche…

C’mon Hr Dr Bob… you know it makes sense !

Unless you include boredom :D
A friend recently sold his flawless Thruxton r and kept his 961.
He also has a whole inventory of old Brit bikes.
The other day, when wanting to go on a long ride, he commented that he has all these bikes and none capable of the long ride at the moment....
I find breakdowns really boring.
