The next new Norton...

It could be at least $20K worse...
Granted, it would be expensive.
Just saying that the 961 doesn't have any of the design deficiencies of the old 750.
The 961 has solid cases, solid crank, solid gearbox, but yes, the clutch may need rebuilding.
Figure 6 Lbs of boost should be good for 30-35% power increase = close to 110HP at 8000 RPM.
Not a world beater of course, never the less a nice improvement.
No other head, cam, of other engine performance work required.
You probably wouldn't want a plastic fuel tank close to a super hot supercharger, so you'll need an alloy replacement.
It would be a cool project for someone with more money than he knows what to do with.
I hope Jay Leno is reading this post.

Well I'll disagree with you just for argument sake.

Timing chain is subpar.

solid gearbox??? If you think a junk copy of a pre 2000 sportster is solid I can send you some pictures from some we have taken apart that might change your mind. At least the mainshafts that are different are holding up but we have seen abnormal wear and bearing issues, the tolerances are sloppy and the shifter mechanics are a joke.

The oil system can barley keep up with the engine as is and if there is even the smallest of particles in the mini check ball then you are starving the engine. The filter doesn't seal. Oil pressure on start up is almost nonexistent.

Id change sprockets before doing anything to a 961 engine depending on if you want more lower or top end and of course if you add any horsepower id go to a stronger chain.

as they say convince us otherwise! :)

Right.
But still better than an old 750. :p
Just joking.

I didn't mean that the 961 is an optimum design, just that it's not fragile.
Of course I would never expect to install a supercharger without first a tear-down and blueprinting of the motor to insure there are no hidden issues.

Well, a friend of mine went to the NEC bike show today, checked out the Norton stand first thing, thought the the bikes looked quite good.
Decided to buy a new Ducati Streetfighter …

No Photos?
Only this Norton one. I’m sure there’ll be more over the next few days.

Note, carbon CR in background…

That Streetfighter just doesn't do it for me, it's too messy, too busy. Bits and pieces everywhere and angles.

Wonder if that CR is one of the "40" 961's promised to existing customers, or does it represent production going forward?

Seems daft putting a 961 on display if they're not going to market it, unless it's in the : 'Here's one we made earlier' category (along with the other '23' single in the background) ?

I was referring to THIS carbon finish CR…
With some actual handle bars and a wee screen, this’d be interesting:

The next new Norton...

Thus why I was wondering if Norton are re-thinking the 961 to some degree.
Someone should sit on the V4 CR to test the ergos.
But yeah, needs low bars not clip-ons.

To be fair, Hr Dr Bob has already said that they are indeed currently in the process of deciding whether or not to continue with the 961 production.

I hope they do, and that they sort it out.
