Thanks for your replays, but nobody says to have issues with the spring washers?I use a shim on one end and a bronze spacer on the other side,
and set them up with zero play and a small amount of friction.
They free up when the head gets hot.
I like to think it helps the oil pressure at low revs. (maybe not so..)
Thanks, my opinion so far is; don't do it, taking the rocker shaft in and out can damage the casting.Shimming the rocker arms without the spring washer?
Hello, I am just working on my cylinder head. An exhaust valve guide is damaged and I have to renew it...... Here is my question: is it wise to shim the rocker arms without the spring washer [NM18103]? Does it affect anything when I put the rocker arms in place without the spring washer? chriswww.accessnorton.com
Hi Yves , have a look and make your opinion..........
Yves, I got some dummy rocker spindles made up that are slightly under size and are longer with knurled ends. This makes them very easy to fit / remove as often as I like without any worries of harming the head etc.Thanks, my opinion so far is; don't do it, taking the rocker shaft in and out can damage the casting.
is my wife Marina deaf?
I did a test; she was in the kitchen and I was in the living room
I ask, What are we eating tonight?
No antsword.
I go in the kitchen door and ask:
What are we eating tonight?
No antsword.
I walk 3 feets from here and ask;
What are we eating tonight?
No antsword.
I put my mouth to his ear and ask;
WAT ARE WE EATING TONIGHT?
Marina says; for the fourth time: T bone steak
Yves
Because....there are no issues!Thanks for your replays, but nobody says to have issues with the spring washers?
Yves
I remember reading about those in a different thread a while back Nigel, did you make them, or have the made? They do seem like a good idea. They are worth their weight in gold, I had them in and out dozens of times when I was setting up my top end.
This is the egg from Colombus, Nigel you are a genius!Yves, I got some dummy rocker spindles made up that are slightly under size and are longer with knurled ends. This makes them very easy to fit / remove as often as I like without any worries of harming the head etc.

Thanks jim, but I will keep it like this, I dont wish to weld on a FA head.7% from increase is pretty good on a head that already has a good port shape. Now you have made it ideal. The FA extaust ports would have to be welded and raised on the floor for any improvement and thats maybe too much work.
The pics are always made by my friend Fabien, he will come by the end of the weekHope your camera isn’t broke Yves...
I willHi Yves,
While Fabien is there with the camera, could you please get some photos of the primary case & alternator installation before it all gets put back together?
