number of 961 reg in the uk

Something very fishy about the numbers, I can't believe there are only 69 Norton 850 Commando's licenced in the UK... and there were only 2 in 2002???

The results are not what I expected either.
No counts for SF models? Why?
600+ total?
OK it's UK registered Nortons - got it.
Some owners may buy a 961 to add to their collections, and never register or ride them so these will not appear in the count.
Also, Norton began selling the 961 in 2010 - but no counts for 2010. Why?

The DVLA normally recorded motorcycles only by 'Make' and not 'Make and Type' before 1986, so the vast majority of Commandos will be hidden amongst the 8729 + 5939 (2017) 'Norton missing' section as they'd be recorded (and on the V5C) as a 'Norton', and not 'Norton 750/850 Commando'.

If you look on the details you can see there is about a third on SORN which I understand is their registration is on hold / they are off the road. This also seems to fluctuate quarter to quarter so I dont know if you can SORN a vehicle for the winter? (statutory off road notification)
I agree though, where are they all? and its understandable that no one want to make spares or accessories for them.

In the UK you pay road tax for 12 months or 6 months, even if it's nil payment you have to tax or declare sorn so before I got my road tax to be nil based on the over 40 years old rule I would tax the bikes for 6 months each year. It's not been called road tax for years but the label fits.

Road tax. Is that what we here in the States call a registration fee? I love that annual inspection is only 6 bucks. This is a very cheap bike to own. I'm only paying 260.00 per year for 110k-300k life and property damamge, full damage and theft, towing. Super bikes would be 3 to 4 times that amount.

Here in the US some states are playing with the idea of a Road Use Tax that would be assessed against a vehicle's annual mileage.
Environmentalists like it because it would be a disincentive to use your vehicle.
Government likes it because, well because it's more money out of the taxpayers pocket for politicians to piss away as they see fit.
