Twelve years old and done 1,300 miles! Why do people buy these things and then not ride them? Bizarre.

You're right, that is weird too.
This is a bit grim, but I once bought a second hand FJR 1300 years ago.
170 miles on the clock.
The owner sadly lost a leg in a skiing accident. So you never really know.

Yeah but, all 3 of ‘em ?.

BTW, there’s one painted in the same colours as yours for sale on FB with 40 miles on it …

Mine wasn’t one of the seven, dual seat and no number seven on the seat.
Had to get special permission of the noble SG to have it painted that colour!!

You think that's bizarre? Not the fact the bike has had three owners?
Well , not so odd at all.
Before Norton went off the rails, early on, some bought the 961 as a future investment, thinking as the company "prospered" the value of an "early" classic model would appreciate. Simply as an investment in their eyes, not as an actual rider.
We can laugh at this thinking now, but I believe there were quite a few of these unfortunate folks in the early years.

A courier told me that he took two 961’s to Monaco so husband and wife could display them on the deck of their yacht..

I was "this close" to sending Kenny Dreer my life's savings to get in line for one...

I was even going to buy a VR880 then have him send me a 952 engine when they were ready, but the frame fitment is/was incompatible.

I was about to do the same after seeing Kenny's 952 mokeup on display at the 2003 NYC Int'l Motorcycle show at the Javitz Center. Looked great, but obviously needed a bit of refinement.
I thought I'd wait until his final version was ready.
Never happened.

Yep, the photo from that show appeared on the internet and I immediately researched his phone number.

The result (eventually) was that I have most of that bike, and then some...
