New arrival

One discovery I made on my new toy is the belt primary was running in oil that I've now drained out
Because the only history I have is the bike has stood for at least two years I don't know if it's migrated in there from the oil tank
Or it's been put there?
It appears to be 20/50
I'm wondering if the crankshaft oil seal has gone?
Anyone know if it's bad practice to run a primary belt in oil?

Some timing belts are run in oil.

JFWIW

Depends on the belt, if it’s a black rubber belt then it’s not compatible with oil. If it’s a white (ish) or red material (synchroflex) then its ok in oil.

I'll have to pop the chaincase off and have a look

Today I made my version of a double ended caliper that'd fit through the spark plug and open out so I could measure my bore
It's not accurate by any means but it was close to 81 mm from what I could make out
So it's got to be a 920

Clever !

81mm bore?!?!?!
Yep or just under
The tool was to see if it was close to 77mm stock
Or whether it was closer to 81mm and actually was a 920 as claimed
So it's not for accurate measurements
Its just a guide
