That should be SOP for any "used" Commando that doesn't show the layshaft bearing replacement in it's history. No mater how pristine it may look.
Post #3 & #7 both have the link to the Comnoz sprung engine thread.Saw that pix once & asked about it years ago ...still no luck.
One thing to watch out for is early yokes don't go with 850 frames, might get into issues with engine/tranny /swingarm/center stand - cradle diffs.
I must figure out how to make it a public view?Welcome RedLetter, your enthusiasm is contagious, pictures go a ling way around here. The bikes looked good from the factory, but there are so many options out there that upgrades and changes are welcome in my book. I look forward to following your thread. Cj

Well wellG'day RedLetter I have fitted an 04 Bonneville front end to my 71 fastback, a great improvement. It is not a bolt on I had to make adapter cups to make it fit, machining involved. I could not find bearings to make it a bolt on. Good luck. Smithy

that sounds intense fabrication considering the isolastics, torsion, flex in frame and other fab work.Lotsa fork options but typically not alota advice about it here, too many outa touch folks about. It's your bike, do what u like.
1 dude here went with a fab single sided swingarm.
Basically a stock honda model swingarm modded to mount up to the stock cradle, then also single shock. There's also lots of other info on a single shock setup tho tons of pix are gone now
- edit: forgot about this part but it does say for a fat tire
"The entire motor and drive train with isolastics was moved 1" to the left to accommodate the tire"

Here's Tyler's smooth riding Norton with modern VFR 750 monoshock rear suspension and fat tire. The entire motor and drive train with isolastics was moved 1" to the left to accommodate the tire. Front end is off a CRB900 Keihin CRS carbs tucked away underneath the tank.www.accessnorton.com

The engine dosent move that much on the ISOs How does a monoshock affect it? I'm assuming the bottom link is attached to the gearbox plates and not the frame No bottom linkage. Shock is attached directly to swinging arm. More detail shown in the link referenced above by Time Warp. Kenwww.accessnorton.com
