sole survivor, you are a bad example I hope to follow making lasing memories and friends of enemies on a rip sNorton Commando! If ticketed on a Commando i'd sure make a plea of temporary insanity on a new Commando as no idea it could be so fast and yet so old and now I know sure won't happen again, I assure you. Fingers crossed behind back of course. On next Peel I'd think i may just run for it like the Ghost Rider.

I don't know about those bicycle speedo above 70 mph. Wes has one he said showed max of 70 today while hauling ass down hill I swear I was pressing 90 to keep up. Maybe his magnet mount is getting slung out of closeness to pick up?
My speedo and tack cables are both non working right now.

Sigmas will generally read high speeds, many brands will not. FWIW Garmin now makes a bicycle GPS speedo and I've been using one, works well...

I've got that same Garmin. Works great, totally wireless. Definitely reads above 70 mph. I used to use a Sigma Sport on my old Ducati because its speedo was way off. It could calibrated for the exact wheel size. According to the various radar signs I ran it through, it was right on. Around here, with all the traffic cops, it's important to know your exact speed at all times. Being off a couple mph can make the difference between not getting pulled over or getting slapped with a $300 ticket.

To the OP, you got really lucky on that stop. In Colorado, +40 = 12 points, instant loss of license, bike impounded, you go straight to jail. And in my experience at least, they don't give many breaks. The state is broke and they want the money.

If you do a search here you will turn up a few posts about a GPS based unit that bill-AKA Windy-tested. Fits right into existing cup, looks great, and was very accurate. I saw it on his bike last spring and was impressed with it. If your head and drive unit are bad its the better way to go IMHO
FWIW

At that speed (81 mph. ), you can't be much blaming a gauge or cable or worn drivebox. Thank god he was nice. Repair order tickets : Bought a new exhaust system ,drove to station to show it ,told "we believe you". End of story.

I can remember a time when we could outrun the police with our motorcycles. About a month ago they chased a bike at 270 KPH on the Hume highway and lost sight of him. A couple of weeks later the local cops did a drug bust in the next town, and found the bike and the rider and charged him with the speeding offences. I think he beat the rap in court, however he will probably have to flee to another state . The cops probably loved chasing him, however they would never admit it. And now they've got another target to harass, so it was not all bad. We look like we will soon be getting laws specifically targeting bikie gangs in Australia. The fellas have been very naughty lately - slapping each other in public.

I wonder if he knew what a Norton is...maybe he thought you came from Back To The Future. Seriously I would love to hear the story he told the boys back at the station :D

+1 for the Garmin 200. Picked on up during my speedo woes earlier this season. I've minimized the needle wobble by putting the proper top hat washer on the speedo drive , cleaning and light lube on the cable and fiddling with the routing. At best its steady and then will wobble and back to steady at the same speeds...epileptic? The two match speeds pretty close when the needle is steady as well the odometer matches closely so I know when I need to look for a gas station.

The cool thing with the Garmin is you can download your ride to a map on Garmin Connect and replay your ride. Gives you top speeds, time, distance, elevation etc The backlight doesn't stay on so its hard to see at night but the the speedometer lighting is nothing to write home about . I can set it to km/hr and not do the calculation on the fly when slowing down coming into town ...is 40 mph 60 or 70 km/hr hmmm... right where the cops set up the radar traps
