Pulled over by police and bike hauled off to impound.

Also here in Canada , say you have a registration issue , ie: you found an old rusty Norton in a Barn and nobody knows anything about it's owner long gone. You make an appointment to see the Justice of the Peace to swear an affidavit in front of Him/Her that the bike was found and you made reasonable efforts to find that owner through registration at Service Ontario and you talked with the property owner which it was on etc. Fee is $35 and your word then rules. Re-registration process then goes forward.

So you could start a thread on this topic... in the pub maybe
They don't know the history of their own United States -- and they don't care. The problems that faced this nation in it's formation were far from simple and the solutions, far from simplistic. I have read the replys and think it best not to become embroiled

Don't quite understand why you figure the winner of the electoral race has come in second. They have simply won a majority of votes from the ENTIRE spectrum of the US population rather than the "huddled masses" of a few areas. I bet you would have been all in for FDR's scheme to appoint "assistant" supreme court judges to pack the court with his own appointees after they ruled against some of his New Deal legislation too? Now that sounds like a real runner up hypocritical idea to me.

I doubt you know any more of the United States history than I do. Unlike you, I am not blind to a corrupt administration.

Insults are not valid arguments. Claims of knowing more than the other guys are not valid arguments. Claiming someone else is blind to the things you know is not a valid argument... Inuendo is not a valid argument.

Start a thread (in the pub) on a specific topic mentioned here (the electoral college) and explain why your opinion is right. Make your argument...

I know it's hard to do the research to present a well thought out opinion, but that's the beauty of debate. If you're open minded and intelligent, at the very least you learn why other people think differently.

I’m sure you are directing your comment to Joe S. Well said.

yeah, It was a broad comment that applies to a lot of comments being made in this thread... The truth is I was hoping you would start a thread on the topic you brought up in this thread in the pub section, so we could give the people who don't want to read or discuss politics in this forum a break...

Who’s forcing you?

Hilary got 3 million more votes and lost, is why I figure the "winner" came in second. The "Free Market" segment of the Republican Party is dead set against picking winners and instead would rather let things take the natural course of survival of the fittest et al, which is how the 1% keeps their power and money. Now two Republican Presidents have been elected with a minority of the popular vote.

FDR died before I was born. And in all three of his elections, he won the popular vote by a landslide after the nation suffered the effects of Republicans letting their moneyed friends run
amuck in the financial markets. Again.

Those "huddled masses" are just as much citizens and their votes should count just as much as you and your "spectrum" of voters whose candidates have been handed the Presidency via an
outmoded system that picks winners from among the losers so they can be thrown a bone now and then. Maybe you should study up on gerrymandering and find out how those "huddled masses" got put into districts with each other so their votes wouldn't cancel those of the "spectrum".

A wise fisherman friend said to me : There are no arguments , only discussions.
Pulled the battery on the MK111 today after wiping off all the snow from the bike cover. 2 C.

I think we should all wait until November 4 and pick this up again. I’m guessing that the next president will carry both the electoral college and the popular vote. Then anyone whose unhappy with the results can fallback on the “stupidity of the voters” argument. That one is perennial and truly bipartisan.

I think not. The DMV is an every day and profoundly relevant topic to any “gear head.” That is the commonality here.

The fact that resentment of abuses by DMV is a near universal for gear heads is an “inconvenient fact” that pro-government types, generally those left of center, dislike.

Tough. Put it in your pipe and think on it.

The thread has unfortunately turned into yet another political discussion but it hasn't been locked or deleted, just moved to a different section of the forum.

In the US the DMV and Postal service is all dependent on where you live. I spent 56 years in the Los Angeles area where the DMV, Post Office and any other govt. agency were a nightmare of lines and agents whom English was their second language. For the last 13 years I've lived in the rural South where there are separate agencies, one for licence plates and another drivers licence. No lines and if there is a question about registering a vehicle, they send someone to your house to check it out. Is it still a PITA to get a title for a "bill of sale" vehicle, YES. As far as USPS, as long as it's not Christmas, I can plop my stuff down on the counter and the agent will box it up for the cheapest or fastest way. Circle my tracking # on the receipt and off It goes. Now as far as Norton parts/experts in my area, thank god for the internet as the few and far between English motorcycle shop owners didn't give up their day jobs.

Seeing my bike dangling by the tow truck sling was the worst part of the whole experience. It seemed like damage was a forgone conclusion and there was nothing I could do to prevent it. But when I picked it up at the impound yard - it was unscathed.

I'll never know why someone hit the delete button on my registration at the DMV. After getting a new title and registration - it has the same serial number as before and so far so good.

I’m sure you’re not the only one who suffered this indignation. These problems are common in data based systems. The process of keeping information in a database up to date, and removing and archiving expired records is always froth with potential dangers. Today virtually everything exists as a record in some database. Once the record is gone the related item simply no longer exists, officially. It becomes your responsibility to prove the item existed as you claim. Factor in the general incompetence of the DMV, and you have a real problem. This probably happens more often than we are aware of, it’s just not publicized by the DMV or media.

Remember back in the 60’s when computers were mysterious marvels that were a threat to human existence, and might end up controlling all of us. Cool science fiction right? That day is here.

We are all just numbers – Secret Agent - the song – “they’ve given you a number, and taken away your name.”

Once your record is deleted, you no longer exist, officially.

Primus nailed it when they came out with this tune about the DMV.

"I've been to hell. I spell it, I spell it DMV
Anyone that's been there knows precisely what I mean
Stood there and I've waited and choked back the urge to scream"
