Purchased a 74 850 engine that was rebuilt but with no valve covers or timing cover. So while waiting for parts I thought I'd take a look inside. It has been 1/2 rebuilt. Honed cylinders stock bore pistons new rings. Head has been redone with triple springs new factory valves and new Norris cam. The thing that bugs me is the fact there are remains of the inner primary gasket . So it definitely in a bike but not run!?!?!? The crank bearings are pictured below, are they inferior to what AN offers? FAG Germany A.D NU306E they appear new but brass discolored. Checked the bearings supplied from AN and they are marked X_Life Made in India.

"they appear new but brass discolored."

Unless you have receipts, in detail for work & parts, from reputable sources, assume it's all in question.

Happens every day.
People consider a "repair" a "rebuild" if it's more than $20.

X-Life bearings are claimed to be superior but there's really nothing wrong with the original German FAG NJ306E roller bearings.

Note that the bearing outer race in your picture is marked NU306E, however, that isn't a problem if the inner race is single-lipped (and marked NJ306E) as the older NJ306E often had an 'NU' marked outer because the NU and NJ outers are identical.
The latest bearings sold by AN etc. are C3 (NJ306E.M1.C3) clearance.
