and gearbox is going together thanks to Ron L and Bwolfie. Spent the better part of the weekend painting the frame and assembling my new sandblasting cabinet.

Here's a view of my hellhole haha:

And here's some gearbox:

I could REALLY use Layshaft 1st gear, if anyone has a used one to spare.

Gears have to be replaced in pairs. So start looking for the two , new best but will lighten wallet.

Alright I have aquired all the gearbox parts, should be assembling it next week. Anyone know how to tell the difference between a 750 and 850 crank?

Thanks bwolfie, I'll take a close look. I guess I expected casting numbers instead of part numbers.

Alright, so Im putting the gearbox together, is it normal for the layshaft to wiggle a little? Im on my second bearing and no matter what once the layshaft is in there I can rock the shaft from side to side a bit. Layshaft is fully inserted into the bearing. Im using an SKF ball bearing.

Yes if only one end stuck in bearing. Spray dry clean the bearing and slowly slowly roll and roll and roll and roll, to sense if any sudden twich/snag sense, if not then run with it, if so its a ticking time bomb.

Thanks Hobot. These are brand new bearings, no snags! I put the mainshaft into the inner cover bearing and it has much less movement. Should layshaft have more movement side to side than tbe mainshaft? I would think tje movement would be similar.

Haven't posted in a while, I picked up a Rocket 3 and a Royal Enfield Interceptor that have been keeping me busy. But now it's back to the Norton! I've been steadily acquiring parts over the past few months, and noticed that the Mark 3 timing gears/tensioner/etc. have different part numbers than the Pre Mark 3... What's the difference??

crank gear:
PreMKIII is .560 inches wide.
The MKIII is .500 inches wide. since the MKIII crank is longer and the rest of the timing component orientation is... as the earlier engines.

Ah ha! Thanks guys, I stared at the parts books long enough trying to determine any differences.
