Hi Everyone Hope Your all well.

I'm hoping one of you experts out there can help me.
We found a box of bits in my late father in laws garage & i'm hoping someone could identify what they are, We believe they would of been kept for his motorbike which was a 1974 (we think) Norton commando Ex police bike (we was informed by the new buyer of the bike a few years ago),Anyway These parts we're found more recently & i saved them from the bin as i understand how hard these parts are to get, They have been stored in a dry garage & are boxed & wrapped up in brown tissue paper & look in great condition, The only label says 4 nipples!.
I'm hoping someone could tell me what they are & if they are worth me sticking them on ebay & what i should hope to get? or if they're just scrap metal?

I've include a photo of the bike as it was a few years ago for anyone that's interested, Let me know if the link doesn't work.

Many Thanks Everyone for any help offered.

Regards

Pete

Look like Amal GP carbs, to this layman

Or Amal 'TT' Carburettors and float chambers (Not Commando).

The "4" and "10" prefix.....
Anyone know? Size?
Chronological progression?
Tuning point?

For clarity, they are not off that Commando pictured.
They are English, being Amal racing carburetors.
Did he have any other English motorcycles?

And yes, they have some good value..

Carb is very similar to my 500 es2 bitza think I bought it from Hitchcock. Float chamber top is different. Are they zinc or magnesium?

I think they are, as L.A.B. said, TT carbs with type 504 float chambers. As far as I know, they were never standard on any Commandos. Some of the early Commando Production Racers did have the similar appearing GP carbs, with, I think, remote matchbox float chambers, but not the TTs.

Some of the early works JPN racers also ran the GP carbs, at times, but most of the pictures I have seen of them show them with concentrics. On the other hand, it's sometimes difficult with blurry old photos to distinguish between GP and TT carbs.

Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for your replies.

I put my glasses on & had another look & completely missed the obvious!!! The float chambers have "Amal Birmingham England" in lovely shinny writing across the top!!
I also got out my magnifying glass & they have U44L stamped on the body of the carb & U44L around the ring by the trumpet & 15 11 9 on another place on the body ( the 11 could be something else,Theyre either badly stamped or something else as they look like teardrops!! or dots maybe?) ...ive added some pics...

I'll have a chat with the mother in law & see what bikes she can remember him having.

Thanks again for all your help

15 TT 9. The smaller body size (7/8", 15/16" & 1" bore size) TT carburettor.

They look new, unused.
Though they didn't come on the Commando as original, who knows what he had mind, maybe hot rodding it with these.

Thats Not to Say they wouldnt go ON a Commando .

Due to there obviously battered and clapped out condition , I'll give you a fiver for them . Mate .

Er . . . . Dont sell them to a mongrel .

THEY ARE VIRTUALLY A TIME CAPSUL ( however its spelling ) The Interplod for a we were human once cop museum .

Sammy Miller might not wreck the carbs . Antique things that have escapedvthe ravages of time ( looks like the bikes been stored safely for coming on 50 years )
should not be disposed of casually . If moneys irrelevant , give em to the safest custodian avaliable . dunno if theres a cop bike museum where the pillferers wouldnt get at it ?

As for the carbs , seen any in that condition ? Ianuchi 'd run em without destroying them . Which is more than can be said for the ' open market ' .
