Whoa... We have some cams here! One is unmarked, one marked "NORRIS 4 R" and another (crazy looking) one marked "NORRIS 358/368". I'll put up pictures as soon as Photobucket starts working again. Any of these usable? Especially interested in the 358/368, major duration on this one.

One of these doesn't have the worm gear to drive the tacho.
So for a street rider performance cam, that is a dead loss.
Or may be for an Atlas, etc ?

Unless, for a Commando, you go to an electronic tacho.
Like a race bike might have ....

Actually, looking, they seem to be 3 different types of cams. ?
Can't quite see all of them in one view anywhere...

It's strange, in internet explorer you can't see the pictures well but they work well in Firefox or on a mobile phone. I think the one without the drive might be for an early Commando? I don't know. I would really like to identify them since they are the only cams I have. The lumpy one looks like fun!

Bottom picture .righ cam...that's a BADBOY
, commandos clatter enough so ditch that!

I would have to guess that that is a blank prior to being ground to a specific grind. It seems to have way too much duration to run as is?

It looks finnished to me....Boy thats a real bad ass cam. the inlet and exhaust must be allmost fully open together! i had one of Bob Joyners back in the early seventies for a A7, I think he called them a polydine ,or something like that. it bounced the valves into a merry dance! basicly it was a square :!: Being young and stupid i thought this was going the make the motor rev, it did for a few miles...then the motor deceided to call it a day. ..this was the valve timing...Snap it open, hang around chatting to the valves a while, then slam them shut, i remember when i started the engine..thinking "O" shit! what that racket? the valves where all happy cool cat's..untill i chucked in the pit bull.

+1

I've got to get to the bottom of that jumbo cam. What do you guys think of the unmarked one? How do I tell if what it is?

Typically cams with flat noses like that require radiused lifters but that one is way flat. I'll try to post some end views of radius lifter cams for comparison. Middle one without the tach drive is from early engines with the cam chain outside of the mag or rear distributer ignition chain so requires and older timing cover. 1st one looks like the best candidate.

Alright! Boxes of parts are rolling in. I spent the weekend cleaning transmission parts and noting the missing pieces. Going to start with the trans, then build the engine. Afterword, paint he frame and install the engine/trans. Then start hanging parts off of it until it looks like a motorcycle!

Here's an end shot of 4 cams. Left is stock, 2s, 4s and a cam for radiused lifters.

That cam you have is one strange cam. Anyone heard of a Norton 2 stroke engine? :|

Great pic - thanks for that.

Someone a while back showed that special set of cylinders, with the special lever follower lifters.
(For a dommie).
Its cam could easy look quite different ??

Thats the trouble with odd-ball cams - they should have the use and install and running instructions stencilled onto the cam...

As its apparent these have been got at :x " Apparently these came from an old timer who raced them " in the nicest possable way :D ,
' We ' would be intrested to see if the Combustion Chambers are all the same , or some modified . And if the valves are the
standard 1 3/8 Ex and 1 1/2 Int , or if he has been up to something there too . . .

also if 1 1/4 im. / 32 mm is the largest of the ports at the manifold face in the heads .
