Your 3rd. photo is very contrasty but the end of the layshaft looks like it was supported on the end as in the layshaft was whipping causing those chatter marks on the end rather then a nice even cyndrical contact pattern as when layshaft is running true. Are the inner and outer bushings that support the kick shaft in good shape and is the outer bushing boss in the inner cover in good shape?
This could just be how the end of the shaft looks in the photo because the inner bushing looks newish and doesn't have matching chatter marks where the end of the shaft locates. I'm just curious about those chatter marks on the end of the layshaft.
