What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

I put the interstate tank back on my mk3 after Jim C fixed it. I put fuel in and it’s not leaking. Also, removed the smiths electronic speedo and put a restored magnetic one. Also, switch back to original indicators / turn signals. Fitted a new headlight shell as old one was not fitting right. Changed all oils. I am now ready to ride and it started snowing, here are pics

I was fortunate enough to get a new sensor cable for my Smiths electronic speedo before they went on back order.With the new cable they also changed how it is wired to the gauge which I didn’t catch until I replaced it. It now works very nicely after catching my mistake.Glad you had a spare unit in your stash.

I can recommend the Devils Staircase and the Abergwesyn common road from Tregaron to Beulah. And the road from the top of the Devils Staircase past Llyne Brianne to Llandovery (the Owls Nest cafe is meant to be good)

p.s. if youre thinking of going to Dom's at Leominster - dont, it hasnt re-opened yet.
I’m right on the border with North Wales and am familiar with the routes you mentioned. I had a slight change of plan and went down to Crossgates via Market Drayton, Shrewsbury, Bishops Castle and Clun and came back vid the A483, Newtown, Welshpool, Oswestry, Ellesmere, Whitchurch. I was out at 6:45 this morning and now home after about 180 very enjoyable miles.

I rode about 160 miles with the Norton Club, we had a ride through the Sacramento River Delta and ended up at Al the Wops, in Locke. Al's shack was originally opened in 1930 and is a great place to hang out, Excellent fish tacos. Norton ran well. I got back and checked battery and oil. Battery 13.20, oil to the high level mark.

No not as yet but thanks for asking. Tbh it’s too soon as it’s at least 28 days at sea. I’ve today emailed the shipper to get a sailing date. It’s currently at Long Beach port awaiting customs clearance and getting all the paperwork in order.

I’ll update the thread as soon as I know what’s happening.

I do, but I wish I had someone to whip my ass into shape keeping it clean, things put away and so on! Most of the time I can't move from one bike to the next without hurting myself bumping into things. Right now, there are 9 bikes on wheels, three on shelves, and three in bins with the frames in my house.

Three commissioned bikes close to done - when they are gone it will feel for a few days like I have space. Rebuilt 1970 Bonneville ready for a new owner. Need a Combat or 850 - next to be built! If you need a Combat engine/gearbox exported overseas - let me know.
 
I’ve been riding my Kawasaki ZG1000 quite a bit recently. A couple weeks ago I parked the Kawasaki after riding for the day and looked over at the Norton. I hadn’t ridden her since getting the Kaw and started feeling guilty about it. So I decided to take her out for a bit and I’m so glad I did. I really like my Kawasaki but I freaking LOVE my Commando! They are two totally different bikes and I get that they both have their good and bad points. But damn, the Commando beats the shit out of the Kaw with the grin factor. I had forgotten that beautiful low end torque, sound, and the wind in my face. I really missed the wind in my face riding the full fairing Kaw. I’m parking the Kawasaki and will be using it for what it’s best - long distance riding. The Commando will be my daily rider from now on. So glad to be back on the Norton! Ride on!

The whole reason I sold mine.
That fairing is your best friend for cold/wet.
But on a warm, sunny day, there was no way to enjoy the weather.

Bought it new, enjoyed the bike 20 years.

I so strongly agree with this discussion !

Feeling the wind is a huge part of the fun / character of riding a motorcycle (on the road) for me.

I think folk often do lose sight of this. I’ve got a mate who’s obsessed with fitting screens to everything he buys. More often than not they actually make things worse as the wind noises and buffeting is worse than simply riding through the ‘clean air’ without a screen.

Of course fairings and screens have a place, but so does riding without !
