Nice work Dave!Hi Tom,

As promised here are some pics of the plates fitted after chroming and powder coating. I’ve moved the pillion pegs forward for two reasons firstly with the AN Hepco and Becker panniers the pegs are just too close to the panniers allowing my wife to only fit her heel on the peg which just isn’t comfortable so moving them forward allows her to have more space and a more comfortable rest for her feet. Secondly when I changed from Interstate to Roadster the pillion footpeg position was too far back relative the the saddle so this has solved two problems. I’m now just waiting for a custom made rear brake cable (3/4" longer to go over the new footpeg position) then we’re done. I’m pleased with the result, the chrome of the outer plate blends in with the ‘Z’ plate and the powder coated inner plates blend in with the swing arm and effectively disappear.Right so here are some pics with the brackets mounted and on the bench. The larger of the two is the rear and that will be powder coated black which will make it blend in with the swinging arm and hide it the front will be chrome plated and I’ve done a basic polish to that end. Don’t worry about the brake cable it was just popped out of the way for test fitting. View attachment 112534View attachment 112535View attachment 112536

I did give it a lot of thought as well as Sandra’s comfort I wanted them to look like they ‘should’ be as they are. So thank you.Very neat !
Don’t expect too many admiring compliments though… looks factory !
Cliff,I finally got my narrow ham can filter fitted with the carb adaptor which utilises a standard rubber connector. Getting the socket screws to start was an absolute PITA ( to put it politely). I must have dropped them 10 times each. If I take the carb off again, I'll drill through the body and use nuts and bolts.

Once that was done I knocked up a new throttle cable using a bicycle brake cable "Noodle" . Unfortunately due to other demands I haven't had a chance to get out and test the new setup yet.View attachment 113572
Cliff,
Is that metal bend coming from the twist grip the “noodle” you were talking about?

Hi Mike, yes, they are common on older mountain bikes with rim brakes.Cliff,
Is that metal bend coming from the twist grip the “noodle” you were talking about?

Every time I see that bike I envision something different than the current set up. Cut the seat, lose the cowl. Install a Playmate over the rear fender, and a rod holder on each side of the rear frame loop. Make it suitable for the terrain. Caught a many Tog off the little jetty at the Light 50 years ago. They sold fiddler crabs at the store near the entrance. The "park" as it sits today wasn't even there.Short ride to Barnegat Light to warm gearbox oil up then change of same .
