There is no reason whatsoever for a properly designed aftermarket ignition not to provide increased performance, and almost bulletproof reliability. However this is a very competitive market, and saving money in relation to to production costs is all important, so buyers end up with second rate systems, which are poorly designed and made, that means that a high failure rate is assured.

-As you appear to delight in telling us (for the third time  ).

So, let's see you do better!

I am not in the business of making ignitions, but if I was I am not entirely sure I would opt for max profit, rather than proper performance and reliability.

I don't agree that talking about this is beating a dead horse. It's good, interesting information all the way around. I bought the Trispark from CNW over a year ago and immediately posted that I thought it was a superb unit and IMO, the best EI for the Commando. I still feel the same way. At the same time, I have to admit that I have not yet "stressed" the unit (or the bike) in any serious way.

I plan to ride my Commando in next year's La Carrera Panamericana. That should be a good test for the trispark!

Testing....123. Tried to post twice and nothing showed up. I'm almost positive it has something to do with the black helecopters which hover over my house 24/7

Careful,

If you question a negative opinion as to its credibility, you could well be told that you live in an alternative universe and go around the nation being a promoting shill for electronic ignitions.

All seriousness aside of course.

OK it's official, I seem to be an enemy of the state and am being silenced. The test post makes it but not my actual post. Here let me try reverse data:

I LOVE my Trispark. Trispark changed my life for the better. Before I installed my Trispark I couldn't walk due to a medical condition. After installing the Trispark I threw my crutches down and ran a marathon. I will NEVER question the reliability of my Trispark because if anything goes wrong I know it will be my fault.

Test.....123.

Commado, first let me say that was hilarious. It must be the water near Salinas. Steinbeck hailed from there, as well, did he not?

Commando75, I applaude the fact that you have kept your sense of humor when you have more reason than most to spew a bunch of grief. We should as a group want to know what is up with your unit...ehr Tri Spark. How about loaning it to another Norton owner in your area to see if your experience can be replicated on another bike. I don't doubt your experience nor your conclusions, but I am hungry for data that will help me make proper decisions on how to build and maintain my bike. So far there is little of that in this thread and it is longer than some build threads.

Rather than putting a potentioally faulty unit on another bike......

why not return it to the manufacturer for testing ? With test equipment the exact nature of the problem can be found and a replacement unit sent out.

it's a valuable exercise for everyone involved.

I look forward to hearing from you

Steve is there a chance you will offer a unit that has separate components?

A seperate component "black box" twin cylinder sequential firing Tri-Spark was available originally (I've got one) but that was replaced by the Classic Twin-which has the additional idle stabilisation and anti-kickback features, perhaps Steve would consider re-introducing limited quantities of the original version?

I wonder why there is no technical information on the Tri-Spark web site? Nothing at all related to advance curve, or the reasoning behind mounting critical system component parts in the points cavity? Plenty of help on how to go about buying though, which seems to suggest that the benefits of this particular system are maybe not that fantastic?

In all the carefully worded posts from the Trispark team there is not a single acknowledgement that a problem exists with the unit. Great details have been provided about factory testing and positive response boxes being full. CNW has designed, built, and is getting ready to market a vented points cover for Trispark owners. And still, not a single word from Trispark or CNW that there is actually a problem with the Trispark unit. This is shall we say...odd. This inconsistancy is the reason for much of the controversy here and on other forums.

Here are two questions for the Trispark team that I would like answers to.

1. Is there a problem with the Trispark?

2. What information has been obtained form the examination of the failed units?

Thanks guys.
Andy

P.S. Black choppers still active in my area. Deploying tin foil hat ; )

Uh, they have said that some units have been replaced under warranty. And that every effort is made to improve the product as issues are found.

What else would you like them to say? Unless there was a significant failure rate then most likely it's not a problem. But we're not seeing that.
