That hand looks nasty man, what did you do?

I was born a N. European, I have Type 1 diabetes, and I like wine.

Palmar fibromatosis (Dupuytren’s contracture) is a condition in which tissue in the palm of the hand covering the finger tendons thickens and scars. The affected tissue, called the palmar fascia, becomes tight and shortened, contracting the fingers inwards toward the palm.

Hand pre-op looked pretty much like this.

Our Winter is here

I've got the Dupuytren's too, but not nearly to that degree, I can live with it, my neighbor friend has it almost that bad. I hope the Dr. didn't leave it like that infectious thing I see. It just came on me in a few weeks and quit when I was about 60.

I am 50, and this is my third op. Doc says I have most aggressive case he has seen. It wasnt infected, that is just how the tissue was on day 3 post-op - the white is wet tissue, not dead/infected. It looks quite a bit better now. PT says it is healing remarkably well, and I have pretty good motion now. I couldnt even open in 80 degrees, and now it is about 150+ and the wound is still tight from scabbing/healing.

yesterday's pic, just to make Phil feel better.

Our Winter is here

That's looking better. As I said mine is not nearly that bad here you can see the pink spots where the swelling is and prevents me from stretching my fingers back, but it doesn't affect me enough to do anything about it. It's been like this for about 10 years now and doesn't change. My friend, his palm is about folded in half and his little finger tendon is high in the palm, I think he's going to get something done about it, but he's in his early 70's.

That cut on the side is an couple week old pinch and the mark on the ring finger is from the maul and pounding in tomato stakes.

Our Winter is here

Every time I break my neck it onsets hand contractures of the nerves causing muscles to lock and scar in place. First time was lifting a heavy barrel and popped neck for instant onset but right side only and hurt to the bone. 2nd time 120 hit on head got both hands a few weeks later. Last time was the helmet into deer pelvis that got L hand worse - after a few weeks. Each time took about 3 yrs to resolve to barely seen, INSTEAD of having callused knuckle in middle of palms handling patients. Point being it ain't coming from hands nor much from genetics expect maybe make those nerve areas more prone. It happened in feet and other joints too but given other names to confuse the market place. Upper cord into bracial plexus decay. Hope your local treatment takes this time as your tissues seem able to repair pretty good.

I think I may only be able to take another decade with too much winter so Central American is looking better each year. Bradley posted me to look in here to see what Auzzie conditons were happening as his creeps up on his Cdo project. Each year I plan to try to ride pasture snow on a Commando but each year something shuts them down till warm enough to fix again.

WoW , i see the "left" hand thingy. I dont what that for me... Would make it hard to change gears, hold your fork, write and function as you know it.. Sorry for youall and others !!!

Dont quite know what these afflictions have to do with "Our Winter is here" :D :D :D

Well in the last few nights our night temps have dropped, got down to between 9c to 7c for a few nights, to you pommie and yanks may not think this is very cold, but us mob here in sunny Queensland, Australia, this is cold for us when we spend most of our time with hot or warm weather, but our day time temps is still over 23c still great riding weather the sky is a nice blue with not much cloud, went for a good ride on my Thruxton today early and got home after 2pm, the bike is running so much cooler and running great, tomorrow I be up early again to take the Norton for big run, the only down fall with my ride today was when a car changed lanes right on me the driver didn't even hear my horn blasting and pushed me on the road verg and so close to the concrete wall, got along side her, yep on a mobil phone, she didn't even know I was there, she didn't even take any notice even with me waving my hand and fingers pointing to my eyes, tring to tell her she could have killed me.

Ashley

What do you expect Ashley, it is the the Eve when the cane toads finally learn they don't control the referees, and she was offering her body to them!

Its been a while since I saw a Winter.
Got a phone call today asking if I want to go up to Darwin for the rest of the year, that or back to the Pilbara.
No Winter either way, not that its that bad at home. :)
Better get cracking with the Commando's though.

Our Winter is here

Hey Chili, thats the norm with you blues, blame the refs, we have never sawaded the refs, at lease our coach don't have secret meetings with the refs before the match saying how hard done you had even when you win, having a winge, but you have won this year, how many years straight have we won, anyways it all good fun between states, to our overseas friends our state of Orgin football between NSW blues (cockroaches) and Queensland maroons (canetoads) 3 games each year between our 2 states a lot of reivery between both states, mates against mates and when its over they are all good mates again, but we can't wait till the next year.

All good mates?
Since when did you ever conclude that??
Last night you were sent off the field in disgrace. I don't know how the bus gets your boys home without being pounded by beer cans. And I expect it is even worse for them when they cross the border heading for Brisbane.

It might not get too cold in Queensland.
But I'll bet the Maroon's reception is icy today.

If you dare show your heads again next year (which I doubt), you will suffer the same fate.
GO THE MIGHTY BLUES!!!!!

Phil
ps I'm not ya mate, mate.

Phil we haven't got nothing to be ashame of 8 wins in row is something to be pretty proud of, your guys win one seiries for the first time in soooooo long, we had to let you win once or the Sydney harbour would have over flowed from all your winging tears, like some of your guys get caught out doing something wrong and they put their hands and arms up in the air and say, I didn't do that, wasn't me, sob, sob, sob, thats what perschool kids do isn't it, mate.

By the way how many NSW welshmen move to Queensland each year to get away from the pitts down south.

Anyway our wheather is warming up again, can't work out what our winter is doing this year, last night was so warm, anyway I am just about to get on the Norton and take it for run up the mountains for good run, the good thing about riding mid week not much traffic on my favorite roads.

Eight years of blatant cheating!!
You should be MORE than ashamed of yourselves!!
I didn't watch the game anyway. Was too busy chasing Commandos in the USA. Why do those bastards sleep during the day??
But I heard on the news this morning you were flogged, thrashed and made utter fools of (those very words used).
And we are an unbiased State. The types that moved to QLD didn't belong in NSW anyway!

I'm still riding the Commando to the pub in my gym shorts, so ain't so cold here either.
QLD being QLD, I expect the Maroons will be lined up and summarily shot.
And so they should be!! Bloody cane toads, even those bastards are working their way south!!

Phil

Phil only 2 points in it and if you would have watched the match you would have seen a bit of cheating from the blues, but we are gracest losers and never complain about been hard done by, but we are getting off track here, when I get home from my ride on my Norton I have to put the rebored cylinders on my mates Norton engine, the hardest part about putting this motor together is finding all the cylinder nuts and bolts for the head when I get it, always the problem when you get a bike in boxes, so its great working up in the shed not being to cold to work.

gracest losers?
I think you mean the "greatest losers".
I don't see a lot of QLD support coming in here with you. Dkt26 probably hung over again.
But who really cares? I'm sick to death of League, it's been sanitised. I now prefer Rugby.

When I build my tin garage (soon) I'm installing reverse cycle air conditioning in it. Just gets way too cold here in winter, you just don't want to go out there and do anything. I've moved house five times in not many more years and am looking forward to finally having somewhere to put all my tools and equipment in one place, and a big work bench with a vice on it. Tins and jars full of gaskets, nuts and bolts etc. Spare Fullauto heads sitting on shelves and peashooters hanging on the wall. I haven't had this sort of luxury since 2001 when living in Burradoo. I love Queensland winters, but hate your summers and Queenslanders are everywhere. If you would all just move to NT (good place for you) I might be tempted.

Hah, sweet. I grew up in MN, but I am sure the Kiwis up here in AKL would react to a meter of snow the same way as Floridians might.... That would be a sight, but I would stay home for that one.

Oh FFS, we have a saying,. Pull your finger out. Obviously you weren't quick enough. How the hell did you manage that. An old friend of mine wiped the back of his hand over the blade of a bench saw 10 days ago. he was lucky to just remove skin and a tiny bit of knuckle. I told him he was a stupid old bastard. He didn't argue with that comment.

you should carry a decent can of spray paint n let the fn bs have it. That's the only thing that will get me. I even met a truck cutting a blind corner one day on a hairpin in the back road between Dargaville and Kaikohe. Bastard. Just as well I was really close to the dirt on the lhs. f...k
I.m glad I'm sitting here sippin' on an Aberlour while reading this thread.
Is that affliction you guys have something like that carpel tunnel thing. My dad had that. I need my fingers to play music so hope it doesn't happen to me. but the older you get, the greater the chance of living a long time without problems. I'll drink to that. All the best you guys. get well.
gortnipper, send us an email at work. we should meet. regards, Dereck

I reckon he was adjusting the chain with the bike on the centre stand, motor running and in gear.
Why else would you post this grotesque photo in here?
Sometimes I just shake my head in bewilderment.

Phil the best thing with us Aussies is we can put a lot of shit on each other and still be good friends its the aussie way of life, I love riding all year round but our winters are the best times for our Nortons they run so well and I don't mind a bit of cold wheather riding as long as i stay warm.
