These are my two, the short one was on the bike when I bought it and the longer is it's correct replacement. You can just see the High and Low marks on each and their different positions.

Whichever one is supposed to be correct, I wouldn't want to fill the oil tank anywhere near to the "H" mark on either-especially the one on the left-as the oil level would be up to the filler neck, so there would be practically no airspace in the tank. As we discussed previously, my Mk3's dipstick is different again to both of those.

The dipstick part number changed to 06-5509 in the 850 Mk2/2A supplement.

So are all dip sticks meant to be the same? Mine is certainly not like yours. I have 2 from 2 early central tanks and they are the same. But yes, I tend to keep it on the L side.

Duh just top off oil tank and ride like the wind for a gas tank worth to see what the innate level should be then you can use dip stick to monitor afterwards by oil just barely touching bottom of short stix and mental mark the level for longer kind.
Its hard to tell how low the oil is on short stix so I'll add a short chain and magnet at some point to alert if disappearing faster than expected ahead of time.
