Low knocking/clonk coming from primary chaincase area?

That spring retainer still doesn't look right, could be the camera angle but the bottom looks seated more than the top in the pic, that is why I use a drift and lightly tap around the whole spring to make sure it's seated in the groove right as well you can see the marks on the spring where it has been seated, maybe it's my eyes but still be checking that.
Has the inner cover been removed at some time as if the centre stud might have to many shims on it that would make the chain rub io the inner case looks like its rubbing down close the the clutch drum and a loose chain won't help as well, such little things can make a big difference especially when it involves clearances between chains from drive chains to primary chains and who has worked on the bike before you, the good thing with my bike my hands are the only ones that have touched my Norton from new, but not knowing what others have done and if they knew what they were doing is another thing, but just check everything in your primary case to be sure.

Thanks for all your comments folks.

I finally have a couple of hours to make some adjustments and will (hopefully) report back later, though I don't know how far I'll get as I have some family stuff to get involved in shortly.

Family before bike eh? Pfft! ;)
