Several ways to improve that clutch. New clutch center, hardened. New better plates and stack height. Main shaft circlip less sloppy and lower torque value to the nut. Nut should use a Bellville type washer instead of the stock soft tabbed one.

Maybe your primary drive is a bit too tight? I had so slacken mine a bit to have it shift smoothly.

Not early primary - I just removed the electric start and filled in the case. Removed all the estart internals too, but it retains the hydraulic tensioner. Nut uses a bellville, reduced torque on nut, etc. It's got new clutch plates and I've checked the stack height. Not the first time I've been though this, but the first time with this bike.

I'm talking about the primary cover in the picture with the parts you are going to sell does that cover have a flat or rounded outer where it fits over the clutch? The early covers were rounded like in 1968 where it fits over top of the clutch my 68 has the rounded cover.

Oh, that WAS an early cover - with damage that someone attempted a very poor welding job. Looks like it got dropped on the foot peg. It's not really salvageable.

What turn signals are you using? And what year taillight are you using. Very clean look.

74Norton - The taillight is just from an earlier model - I think it was a '71. Standard 679 style Lucas. The turn signals were from just some I found on eBay - probably these . (The actual ones I got are apparently no longer available from the same seller.)

Lineslinger - thanks! I wanted the green to be a bit deeper/darker, but overall I think it works.

It's got new clutch plates
Just a heads up...since I tend to be a lightening rod for E-start issues (having built and sold over 1200 starters) , you may want to keep an eye out for damaging sprag skip and jump. I may come about due to the oily clutch syndrome being " fixed/cured/improved" with fiber clutch plates(barnett?). Inspection of failed sprag components make wonder what effect the black goo does. This is based on affected folks admitting they are not running the bronze plates....
Still in research......
YRMV ;)
EDIT sorry you don't have a starter, silly me....

Dynodave - There's no sprag in this bike. I took all the estart stuff out and made a spacer. I do have one of your starters in my other '75, however - which I really like. BTW - I put new bronze plates in (I didn't like the Barnetts).
