My Peel was not 10 CR Combat as only had 2S cam otherwise unshaved standard factory 750 small port head with FlameRing sans base gasket so not even 10 CR. When I recreate that surprise combo someday I will leave any head gasket out so expect even better with more Combat like CR. About 35 yr ago it was found out just putting standard cam in Combat CR to detune for lower octane or less need to rev hi was a no no d/t ping pang boom. I sure do not think of my SV65O nor my factory Combat as hot rods. I class Ms Peel in league with my 6.9 L mercedes, 450 hp & torq chevy V8 and my 500 big block Ford jet boat
I class my sorely missed 68 P!! nakeder than this plaid mini skirt beauty in another acceleration class above all the above. I would of given all of Peel away just for the P!! ancient old school obsolete engine.

One of my 1st soul mates before shacking up *permanently* told me to be careful of what you want as may get it. So to say ya want a hot rod to me means some thing with power to mass that must be routinely exercised/practiced as a pistol shooter or musician because its abrupt loud fast action traction control must be kept sharpened to hook up the hot rodness effectively. Wheelies and short undesired drifts or trip downs with annoying tire noises takes some always aware skill to avoid or use - not strain to obtain. Then should learn what to do when brakes only change angles or skewing not slowing to mater. When I here crazy talk like hobot I will know ya know what I mean.

Welcome to the forum Njnortoncomando, there are lots of good folks here with lots of "know how".first thing to do is get the repair manual. Oldbritts website has online IPB's which come in handy much of the time. The emgo steel gas tanks seem to be the way to go, unless you have deep pockets for a custom made aluminum one , either way forget about the fiberglass one. Again welcome to the forum. Cj

If I understand your story, you paid $5000 for a non running 1971 Norton. The market value of this non running 1971 Norton was $4000 as you said cause it did not sell on ebay because of reserve. So you can't sell your bike on ebay for what you paid for it. You paid too much.

The good news is if you get it running OK it is a $6000+ bike. Please take it to a Norton specialist in your area (Central Jersey? Classic Cycles Ltd maybe) to explain care and feeding of your new toy. I hope it all checks out. We all enjoy our Nortons and hope you enjoy yours.

Thank you all for the welcome and for sharing your knowledge and insight! Truly do appreciate it. Baldy, I will do as you suggest- thank you
