All I can say J is you won't be disappointed, they are so easy to mount and set up and having a set up that don't need a battery at all to work, I have been stranded with a dead battery before and wasn't fun.

These new 4 rare earth maggies put the old Lucas maggies to shame and turning the maggie over by hand you can hear the spark crack, I have been japped by my old Joe Hunt (2 rare earth) that was on my old triumph many years ago and I tell you I don't ever want to experance that again, I think if you get jazzed by the new Joe Hunts it probly pop your eye balls out of their sockets

Obviously my 650ss had a magneto. I was once on a long trip overnight, when the alternator fell to bits, startlingly it was a Lucas alternator, I know that Lucas stuff generally doesn't do that , but there you are. I carried on draining the battery until there were no more lights. Then I stopped and waited for the sun to come up. When it did , off we went, no problems.
The only reason that manufacturers dropped magnetos was because points and coil was so much cheaper, nothing to do with function. Solid state ignition systems were a thought bubble of a bright spark in the early 60s.
cheers

Early Lucas alternators had rotors that were not welded and came apart at higher revs. Another case of cost cutting :!: :(
