Spark Plug Caps for Atlas Lucas Magneto

Hi All,
I am planning for now to use my Lucas magneto and will make up my own igimtion wires. The question that I have is do I use cooper core wires with NON resistor plugs and caps?
 
Agree. Most people think that magnetos works better without resistors. Copper core wires and non resistor caps is what I use on my magneto bikes. Because it is harder to find non resistor plugs nowadays.
If you have other electronics e.g. a tacho, then a resistor plug might be needed. Never use more than one resistor, resistor plugs plus resistor caps gives much weaker spark, harder to start.
 
I'd suggest copper core lead, no resister caps and BP7ES plugs based on using a magneto on Norton 500 twin engines.

If you do need an electronic tach then a Scitsu tach will work by attaching the pickup lead along a plug lead.

The Scitsu on my Honda racer gave false readings when pickup lead was close to an ignition coil. A 3 inch gap between coil and pickup wire solved the problem.

Yes you sometimes need to experiment to get it working correctly . Plus get the correct tach. Wasted spark. Non wasted. Multicylinder etc.
