Health Care or Wealth Care

A 2017 survey of the healthcare systems of 11 developed countries found the US healthcare system to be the most expensive and worst-performing in terms of health access, efficiency, and equity.

Well, surprise, surprise! ..... Someone should shove that under Donald Trump's nose!

Co-pay should be part of any health system. Too many people roll up because "I paid for it" or "Its free". Where you send your money
should be up to you. Risk is no longer part of western life or so some would like to think. Risk is the very basis for investment of any kind.
The current risk-adverse mindset has brought on all sorts of unintended consequences. "Something might happen!" No kidding...it is called
LIFE! Equal opportunity doesn't mean equal out come but that too has changed.
Well, glad I am old...
It’s an interesting idea, but is practically unworkable.

People would opt out AND still expect treatment.

So would society, so would the medical profession. The medical profession in the U.K. just isn’t willing / able to turn people away and let them die just because they ‘opted out’.

So, irrespective of the philosophical debate, it just would never work here.

On a slight tangent here, is the Covid vaccination free in the US? I suppose it must be, but I’m just curious.

and it's taxes very well spent. Imagine if the military had a strict auditing every year and it's budget cut back by 50%. Imagine if corporations and the wealthy start paying the same tax rate they did in 1960. Imagine if all stock transactions had a small tax. Imagine what good all that money could do for this country. We've had 40 years of this free market and neoliberal nonsense and the results are in. A tiny minority got stinkin' rich and the planet is getting the life sucked out of it. Still think this "trickle down" stuff is going to work?

Ike would be proud.

Ike is rolling over in his grave. I'm old enough I can actually remember him on TV. I was a tyke, maybe 8th grade.

Me. too. Eisenhower could have run and won for either party, he was really almost apolitical. If Adlai Stevenson had not already sewed up the Democratic nomination, it would have been there for The General's picking. The trickle-down bs started with Ronny Rayguns, although it's always been the philosophy of the wealthy.

PS-this is history, not politics.

What would seem to me an undisputable downer to US healthcare is that it is so bureaucratic . If you have an accident or are ill , even if insured ,you will lots of forms to fill in.

remember 60008 well, anA4 pacific that pulled ikes train during
world war2 and was renamed in his honour. On withdrawal it was fully restored at Doncaster and sent to the US where it was woefully and sadly neglected. Shame- a great loco and a great man -both deserve better

It was shipped back to the UK where it was lined up with all the other remaining
A4s to make complete lineup of 6. And once given a repaint and any necessary repairs returned to the US. Hope you will look after it a bit better this time. But I fear that won't happen.

I saw it at York-It was in the worse condition of any of the 6 survivors and had been totally neglected . Suspect your fears will prove quite prophetic

Groan! . . . . Why can't the museum put some teenagers on it to give it a wax and polish every six months? Under supervision, of course.

What, you mean there’s an app for that ??
Dunno, but some youngers would benefit from building their muscles up from playing computer games indoors, like wax on wax off.....soon have them joining a sports club now this lock down is being lifted, in no time.

Do you know where it may be now? I am close to the national Museum of Transport, which houses several old locomotives.

A little digging finds it in the National Locomotive Museum in Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin
Health Care or Wealth Care
