Brexit or no Brexit

There is definitely a trend developing in the major western first-world countries- the populace has tired of overlord bureaucracies fleecing and attempting to control them, when their constitution is such that they should be the SERVANTS. I see pay cuts for politicians coming next, and IT'S ABOUT TIME.
Be careful what you wish for....
Pay peanuts, get monkeys!

I would say the inmates have been running the asylum now for quite some time already ....how the world ended up in this mess .... hard to stay in my happy bubble now more than ever ....

Thankfully, I'm about to receive my first check from Uncle Sam, a fraction of what I paid in over the years...

Anyway, I'm not paying that beast any more.

What really puzzles me is this love of authoritarianism. If it is not communism, it is fascism. Seems to me that the Democrats in America get the Commie label when they are actually to the right of Genghis Khan. The highest level of Maslow's 'hierarchy of needs' is 'self-actualisation'. Neoliberalism is about promoting the freedom of the individual, however morality and altruism have their source in the collective. If we were all money-motivated, there would be no scientists. Then the question would become - 'how is wealth created without intellectual property' ?

Our pension checks are subject to income tax here in Canada .... even though we paid taxes along with our share of the fund , both levels of Gov. get a second taste during our golden years haha! ... an older buddy of mine now gone told me “the only thing golden ‘bout your golden years is your urine” .... he had a realistic view of life ....and a lot of fun

Not sure where that came from Al , good thing ‘bout where I live you can pretty much do what you want , always had my own code and it wasn’t based in any law of the land , just treat people as you want to be treated ,the rest falls into place , this only works if you do not suffer from greed disease ....went to work paid my bills, raised a couple kids, had some fun , simple just the way I like it , grand plans ,thoughts and ideas are for others to worry on ....

Yes I have done the same thing all my life to me money wasn't everything, I worked hard all my life for basic wages but I saved hard to buy my things and always had good food on the table and made sure the kids were healthy and to teach them to respect others, treat others the way you like to be treated and politeness goes a long way and if people give me crap they get it flung back at them, I have always done my own thing and a good wife that lets me do my own thing and lets me go away when ever I want on my bikes or in my Land Rover to go bush and even better now semi retired but still have 7 years to go before I get my old age pension from all my years of hard work, and now 60 I no longer got to pay tax on my super pension, life is great for me now and have everything I ever needed, 5 bikes and a great workshop set up my way and next month a trip away from everything, just me and a good mate and a few fishing rods and of course the beers lol.
And the best thing I own everything and have no debts and still have some savings for when its needed, life couldn't be better.

Same here Craig - tax on tax on tax....
Like you, paid into the system for 38 years - pension payments were on top of the standard tax and national insurance paid by all in work (or meant to be)...and taxed again now my pension is paying me back...

Hmmm, in the U.K. pension payments are tax deductible, hence the need to pay tax on the drawings when you take them.

You gotta pay tax one way or t’other.

If we were allowed to pay in tax free and take out tax free, just imagine how that would be exploited !

Not sure if that has been/is always the case. In the public sector your tax free allowance is applied, tax deducted on the residual and then pension taken - based on gross salary. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a bloody generous pension when compared to private ones but as they say..
Only two things are certain - death and taxes

Collectivism is one of the most fundamental Australian values - nobody gets left behind. I have never begrudged paying my fair share of tax, however other people are different. Money-motivated people live for themselves. Altruism and morality have their source in the collective, NOT the individual. In the end, the tribe must act as one to survive. If we try to go it alone, we will die one by one. There is an analogy with motorcycle racing - it is very difficult for an individual to beat a polished race team.

Any attempt to equate the American population trying to survive against it's bastardized modern liberal "governing" (ruling) entrenched 2-party mob is useless. When i set out to type that sentence, I had a thought in mind how it was a good analogy. In reading it now, I lost the punch line. (Still, our current situation is virtually hopeless to rein in the government and make it work FOR THE PEOPLE again)

The problem is that we live in the moment. For every political action there is a reaction. Sometimes it takes something bad to let us know what we do not want. The law of unintended consequences says that 'everything happens for the best'.

Make it work for the people, you think that is ever going to happen, politics is all about the party that is in GOVT at the time and whats best for that party, do you think they really care about the everyday person on the street, only when comes time to vote is when they care.

Maybe nothing to do with Brexit .... maybe part and parcel, ..... the French Finance Minister just publically said "Breton Woods is dead". That sort of comment usually occurs behind closed doors.

So what is next? What do the financial oligarchs have in mind?

I think they are running scared .....

Trump seems to be leaning on sanctions more than any predecessor; there are aspects of sanctions which affect currencies pegged to the exchange rate of the dollar. When a pegged country honors sanctions it can stress their purchasing power as well as the currency of their trading partners, France for example.

Then, one reason for the dollar as the unit of international exchange is the historical integrity and transparency of the American legal system; the current spectacle of our DOJ and runaway lower district courts are the latest hammer blows tending to undermine international confidence in the dollar

BREXIT
Brexit or no Brexit

Boris Johnson on the scooter, the EU 27 on bikes...

Considering the scooter is Italian... and the bikes are all British...I’m struggling with your analogy on this one...!
