961 sensor thread

Thanks Stephen
I've added the TPS in another diagram.
Please confirm that its referred as #5 "Throttle Pot -PF2C" and I'll add it to the list.

I'm also looking for the MAP sensor, where is that physically located on the machine?
Yep, No 5 is correctly numbered as the Throttle Position Sensor P2FC (TPS). Not sure what the ‘pot’ ref is. Look at the oil pressure sensor also; there are sensor listings at the start of this thread.

I think the later machines 2018 (Euro 4/ABS) models have a MAP sensor (earlier models not) - unsure though; one of our more tech savvy members will confirm.

A set of useful schematics that would sit well in the ‘Resources’ area, noting that there may be minor differences between models - like the MAP sensor👍.

Apparently, if the bike is equipped with ABS it will have a MAP sensor. It is located above the throttle bodies…

ok I have non ABS so no MAP sensor for me.
Getting back to the TPS sensor, whats involved in switching that out ?

This should be easy . There is just one plug and the two screws holding it in place . It will just pull off the end of the throttle shaft. Just make sure you have the correct part p/n .

From Prvious thread : Get the correct part

The Harley Davidson part# 27629-01A is stamped as Magneti Marelli PF1C/00 (Anti-Clockwise) and it looks as though what I actually need is the PF2C/00 which spins Clockwise.

Yes , I just verified that the TPS on my HD turns CCW with the throttle. And of course it turns CW on the Norton 961 .

You need a CW TPS
YOU can also go to Jenvey and buy the TPS . Its is marked CTS but says is a Magneti Marelli in the photo . It lists for 46 pounds , contact via email and be sure its for the Norton 961.
Here is the link to the Jenvey TPS PF2C by Marelli marked CTS for Norton 961 Price is now 49 pounds . This is the one you need :

TPS PF2C Magneti Marelli

$191 for 2
Lemme see if I can buy one stateside or if any alternates will work

Shipping from the UK is often extortionate and there’s a lot of Magneti Marelli PF2C ‘Type’ Chinese knock-offs about - some identified as such, some masquerading as the real thing. Ask me how I know!

The below item looks legit, and is detailed for Harley and Guzzi also - might be worth a line of enquiry stateside.

On fitting, as discussed above - I seem to remember Stu mentioning an element of TPS rotation is required as it is fitted (for alignment) before securing with screws. May be wrong on this, or mixin-me-sensors! I’m yet to fit this item.

No spark on my ABS California was a blown ECU fuse, and faulty crank position sensor ( part of the alternator), as diagnosed by Stuart Bodycote. Luckily, Electrex will sell the whole alternator assy. (The only way to get it changed) without reference to Norton factory. He also swapped the 4 relays, cam sensor, the MAP sensor ( to the good Yamaha one) and the Bosch head temp. sensor. Also , he high-pressure bled rear brake which was successful, where usual manual procedure had not worked.

You can replace just the crankshaft pickup sensor.

To me the unit just comes complete from Electrex...and it's pretty much the only way we'd have any warranty with them. If anyone wants me to just replace a part, they'd have to supply the part to me, so it's just my labour applied....which I'm more than happy to do for people if it helps.
If Jan wants his old unit back, it's in the big box of broken 961 parts...more than welcome to swing by and pick it up.

Last one we saw go bad went open circuit. The part number from Electrex was P-500 (500 ohm coil) , they did carry them . I worked with meangene , his went open circuit and mine measured ~ 475 ohm.
