You're very welcome.

VENT KIT FOR TRANSMISSION IS A MUST HAVE, EVEN ON MK2 BIKES !!!!

New manual #27 sent out today.

Removing the CRANK. Hi lights an engine issue too. But don't be alarmed. I'm sure you have already had it addressed if yours was affected. You likely wouldn't be able to deal with the vibration of this issue.

Happy Holidays. More manuals to come -- Just been a little busy. Also >> HUGE Thanks for all the support, with out you 961 owners being so generous, I wouldn't be able to justify my time.

Hey Richard'
Once again, thank you for sharing your experiences regarding the new Nortons with all of us. I also hope everyone has happy holidays. Personally, I'm kinda bummed. My gravel driveway in the woods up to my cabin is now covered with snow and I finally had to park all the bikes and start driving the truck. The news reported last night that Indianapolis police had been called to 117 car crashes and 18 slide offs yesterday. Probably best that the bikes are in the garage, on the battery tenders with stabilizer in the tanks. I still don't think I'm going to practice removing the crank on the 961, even if it's going to be sitting for a while. I think I'll just wait to get snowed in so I can sit with the dogs by the fireplace, have a glass of applejack brandy and let my mind wander to some curvy roads and good pavement. It's not really even winter yet. Crap!
Thank you,
Charlie

Same here. But my beverage choice will be home brewed IPA.

Hi Richard,

35 years after selling my last Commando I've just bought a 2012 Commando Sport. With Winter now upon us I fancy doing a bit of tinkering on her in the garage before getting in the Spring and would really appreciate a copy of your manual.

My email address is: quemby@gmail.com

Many thanks
Roger

Roger,

I will send out today. Congrats on the purchase and welcome once again to Nortons. If I can suggest, CNW has some tools we have developed especially for the 961 Engine that will make your Tinkering a lot more enjoyable. If I can suggest a few items from the CNW website you will be sure to thank me at a later date.
- ONE07 Transmission Vent. The 961 does not (yet) have a vented transmission and with enough accumulative miles, builds pressure. That pressure needs to be relieved and its most common spot is the Starter gasket. The vent prevents this and lets it breath. On the 961, the engine and Trans oil is separate.
- BOSCH IGNITION COIL - part number in my manuals or get from CNW
- ONE07 racing wires, these wires will make you smile and not just for racing but also for a much more steady idle too.
- NGK Iriudim plugs
- ONE07 Gear Jam Tool. When ever you open the primary side, this tool will be your best friend.
- ONE07 Clutch Jam, again, this will be your best friend on the Primary side and of course for changing out clutch plates too.
- ONE07 Battery Mat.

Then, if you are really a tinkerer you will want the following;
- Lifter Lock Tool
- Cam Lock Tool
- Gear Puller made for the 961
- ONE07 Balance Gear Spring Tension Tool - This is handy and is used to reduce mechanical noise from the balance gear. (it's unfort. a common issue - especially on pre 2014 bikes)
- ONE07 Starter Solenoid Rebuild Kit - Eventually you will buy this kit as the 961 needs a good crank to turn over and with a low batt the solenoid just clicks away and burns up.

Growing up around my dad with all the bikes and cars. It was all about those special tools to make the job a breeze. Of course, tools like the ONE07 collection which are very well made, are very collectable and I'm sure will one day be part of the bragging rights of owning a 961 to have the complete ONE07 tool collection for the 961. ONE07 is my dads gig and and the volume of 961's to be determined I'm sure will be low.... Just saying..

Hi Richard,

I would value a copy of your manuals to the following E-Mail address: steveandmo@optusnet.com.au

Just purchased a new 961 Cafe Racer. Or I should say that I thought I was purchasing a 2016/17 bike however, the frame records a Jul 15 build date. Should have paid more attention.........DOH!! Still loving the (MK1/MK2???) bike though. Just about to have the first service and will request that they torque the head. Also ordered the breather mod from CNW.

Your manuals will be appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to put them together; a great resource no doubt.

Best regards,

Steve AUS

Thanks for doing this work to help educate the loyal but somewhat perplexed Norton enthusiasts like myself. I would love to receive the 1. Cylinder head torque 2. Tranny vent 3. Oil change 4. throttle control and 5. Oil in airbox sections for now. Look forward to the completed manual in the future. John

I received the service emails and thank you kindly. Looking forward to reading through them. John
