Feked anti-wet sump valve and switch

Hi,
I have just purchased one of these devices for my commando but it doesn't come with any wiring diagram or anything, so if anyone on here has fitted one I would appreciate you advice on how you wired it up.

"Coil Type explained: Simply use the two wires on the switch to interrupt the power supply to your ignition system. This can be wired in series with the coil low tension wire, or a power feed wire to the ignition switch (care with amperage use) or a power feed to the electronic ignition unit."

Ok, so (assuming it is standard positive earth), disconnect the Tri-Spark black/yellow from whatever 'ignition switch' (actually, kill button) wire it is connected to which can be a white/yellow or a white/blue (or white if the kill button has been bypassed) and connect the valve between those two wires. It may be necessary to extend the valve wires to do so.

I connected my DIY AWS manually actuated valve micro switch to the power feed going to the ignition switch. Just unplgged the spade connector at the ign switch, plugged that onto one side of micro switch, took other wire from micro switch to the now unoccupied connection at ign switch. Done.

That is what I would do if I had the switch part on my dangerous manual kaboom ball valve. Kill the ignition at the source. (Recommended smiley face. )

How can a manually operated valve get "stuck" in a closed position and not have the ign interupt also in the open/ign off position? That's just not going to happen.

Here is what I"m using

I fitted the ign defeat switch using a bit of alu flat, drilled to fit over one of the barbs, epoxied in place. Works great, looks discreet.

Personally I would not trust these so called "automatic" anti drain valves, but on the other hand I do not see how a manual operated valve could get "stuck "in the closed position, also a electric ignition inhibit circuit on the manual valve will add extra safety.

This is a matter of personal preference. It would be nice to have one if there was no worry involved. I do not have the Strength of Character to use one even though I have an Oil Pressure Gauge installed. My Moral Shortcomings are obvious.
Frankly I worry about another break in the ignition circuit, not so much at start but as I ride.

I have used this one from IronJohn now for 6 years now.I have it wired directly from the battery to the ignition switch so it shuts off all power to the bike.No problems.

One wire battery pos ,one wire coils earth . Will not start until oil is flowing, simple and safe .

The switch fitted to the Feked valve is very tiny, I would recommend fitting a relay in the circuit.

@Dukepaul I use the Feked valve with switch that you mention - it works well, and I am pleased with it.


Someone on the Facebook group recently suggested wiring it in to the horn instead of the ignition system which I thought was a brilliant idea, and something I definitely plan to do over the winter months.

I thought of using a relay, as mentioned by @Peter R but decided against it, as I didn't like the idea of relying on a minature relay coil being energised to power my ignition circuit - just seemed like another point of failure and needless complexity to me.
