My 2 penneth. If you really feel the need for a valve the the Feked type is the way to go. The so called automatic ones are a potential disaster and even if they work properly they introduce a restriction into the oil feed.
If you use the Feked type, turn it on well before you ride to make sure the oil line to the pump is full.
I've never felt the need to fit one to my Commando. The only time I have to drain the sump is if I haven't used the bike for a couple of months. Otherwise I just start it. The extra oil in the sump gives the cam and followers a nice dose of lubrication on startup.
I do have a lever type valve on my ES2 but only because when the oil in the sump gets to the level of the main bearings it come out of the breather and dumps a pool of oil on the floor. It doesn't have any interlock gizmo but I use a clip on peg on the advance and retard lever as a reminder. I haven't forgotten it, yet.
