What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Comen

My comments were just general ones not aimed at you
I think sometimes the original equipment gets a bad rap
I have a BMW boxer type voltmeter on my commando it works very well
Cheers
No worries - I read it the way you intended it.

My thoughts are many put faith in 'modern' technology, simply because it is perceived as modern, and do not fully appreciate that there still are compromises that need to be respected when adopting these technologies. In many cases, they open a Pandora's Box of new issues that require even more resolution to become reliable in service. (cases in point - mixing a 200w PODtronic R/R with a TriSpark EI... or a Mk3 Boyer EI and an E-Start...)

There is nothing wrong with the legacy tech that you listed. :)

Did Roadscholar mail you one of his black powder pistol targets?

No. The groups weren't very good. I got tired of my hands and arms being covered with the chamber sealing material that I didn't get to working on varying the weight (volume) of the powder charge. I came to the conclusion that this piece was for 7 yard defensive/offensive shooting.

Best.

Oh my goodness. I hope you are wearing leather and have safety glasses on firing those things!

Sorry, certainly no harm intended. It sounds like a dangerous activity to me, that's all. Please accept my sincere apologies.

Today I changed my rear tire. Noticed the wear bars poking through last weekend. Nice to see that the tire wasn't completely worn square this time, here in the land of mostly straight roads...

Think I got about 5000 miles out of it.

So last Thursday night, I loaded the bike in the trailer, jumped in the Cummins Dodge and headed the 5 hours east to Prince Edward County, Cherry Valley in particular. I considered riding there, but Toronto is in the way, and cutting north to avoid added at least 2 hours to the journey, and I just wanted to get there. Plus I did not relish doing it solo...

Friday was about 100 miles after breakfast touring the east coast of the county, followed by a BBQ, bevvies, and a bonfire.

Saturday was the Observation Tour set up by my friends Geoff and Marianne Doherty and the CVMG Eastern Shield Section. About 140 miles ridden, touring all areas of PEC, with a stop at an ice cream shop and a winery. All manners of vintage machinery were in attendance - and the weather was perfect. The 3B's were engaged for Saturday night also.

Sunday was pack up day, but before loading the bike, we made an 80 mile ride out and back to Carrying Place for a lovely breakfast. Some in attendance continued from here to home in the GTA. After returning, I said my thank-you's and farewells, turning the truck to the west and down the 401 to home.

Bike worked flawlessly again this weekend, turned in nearly 61 mpg on Saturday, and logged a little over 300 miles.

Looking forward to this event again in 2022!!
Alma and myself left the Doherty's event behind and went east to Montreal to deal with a family emergency . ( Dementia ). Bike ran great the entire 1200 Kms. Bad weather on return trip. New rear rubber soon.

I swear that I replied to this earlier.

Thanks for the clarity, no apology needed; put it back in your pocket and save it.

Best.

Installed a reed valve breather and realized how well it worked! The bike breathes better...fewer oil leaks...better acceleration and just overall better bike.
I think mine was just a little smoother, but difficult to tell.

Yesterday I completed my 2nd service (1st when I got the bike, 2,000 miles ago). Started the bike and checked for oil return, all fine. But had to turn off, as the garage was filling with smoke mainly from the LH exhaust. Triple checked oil level, it is half way between the markers, like usual, after 2.6L of oil. Am out today, so will warm it up tomorrow, recheck level and see if it clears.

...hoof it out of the way to go out on this...

Poked and sprayed the Amal pilot jets and replaced the voltage regulator yesterday. Took the 'Ho on a 30 mile shakedown, and it was flawless. Let's see how long that lasts.

Think I'll reinstall my volt meter today and break in my new Vanson Leathers jacket.

Rode the Commando to a bike meet put on by a generous guy every year - geared towards vintage dirt bikes . This guy has a private old school motocross track on his property . Races on Saturday - swap meet and bike show on Sunday with all type of bikes welcome. First good run on the Commando since my accident two weeks ago. Absolutely beautiful day - bike ran just beautifully as well so all good in that regard . And then there was this to top it off -

Just got back from the 'Trophees Gerard Jumeaux', annual track weekend at Circuit Carole, Paris. Tricky little track, but you can take at any pace you want, and some lovely people around, and a little French hospitality.

So all in all a nice soft track riding return for me after 2 years exactly!

Most stuff worked as it should, including me! And no helicopter ride needed at the end of my day!

Remember Dave Croxford always wore an open face helmet? What you may not know is that he had a piece of sponge inside it to raise it a bit...

Well, new helmet, first session I could not see corner exits, and it was literally giving me a pain in the neck trying to see, so I stole my wife's washing up sponge, popped it in the crown, worked a treat!

I had a Shoei once which has a very low brow. I kept wondering why I was getting neck cramps, until I realized I was having to hold my head backwards to see under it. Some lids just don't suit certain head shapes.
