What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

was 80F here in NC rode with my friend he took his 78 T140 my commando had not been started in about 6 weeks so took a few prods but after that ran great,,,,,,we went out on country roads for about 40 miles it was nice except for the redneck that passed us on yellow line and cut back in way too close spring is in the air for sure

Went to the NOCNZ rally in Port Waikato this weekend. About 75 of us. Lots of nice Featherbeds, plenty of Commandos and two Hi-riders. Good people, good rides, good food an plenty of lubrication. Good fun was had.

I was booked and paid, ES2 prepared and saddlebags on but had to bail at the last minute due to work. :(
Good to hear there was a decent turn out. Hopefully no sore head this year...

March 10 2022 .. Temp 33F After 2 months on tinkering , i took the bike out for a shake down ride to check for leaks and re-assembly of everything i had taken apart .. 8 kilometres later and all seems well .

Winter work .. Recover seat , re-wire neutral switch , new Avon Roadrider II tires 19" front and back , service F/R brake calipers and change fluid , service forks and fluid change , serviced gearbox ... inside bearing and a few bushes and all seals , serviced primary and added a new Ali Express 18 roller sprag bearing ...... 20W oil and a first time gasket for the primary chain tensioner , 50W Penn Grade high zinc for the engine and a NAPA filter 1348 3/4-16 thread , removed speedo drive and cleaned out old grease and re-packed with new grease , washed out drive chain in varsol and re-lubed.

Pretty much covered it from top to bottom .. A big thanks to Jerry for this forum .. Far more information here then you will ever find in a service manual

Hi everybody,
Every 2 years we have technical inspection, had mine today 07:20. i always have to fit the standard brake, change out the LEDs for glow bulbs and so on, otherwise type approval failure. I still failed for Horn not working but took it back this afternoon and it passed hurrah, so went a little ride. I fitted new BT46 last weekend, I will not say the size but they ride really wonderful and comfortable.
So here a nice picture.

Have a great weekend,

Martin

I understand the need to change from led back to the dim stuff (no I don’t ) but what do you mean by changing the brake?

Well normally I use the CNW brake which they do not allow. I will change it back tomorrow as it is a far better brake. I would be in some trouble if I were caught, but that is unlikely.

Such a shame, when it is for safety and not performance.

I have friends who were stopped in Germany and needed to prove that their Acrapovic silencers fitted to ZZR1400 Performance Sport are actually a standard fit in the UK and an accessory in the rest of the world. Like these on mine

I took my bike out last weekend because we were teased with spring weather here in Michigan. Now we have a blanket of snow everywhere and it's back to the deep freeze. A while back when I was working on the carbs, I removed the choke apparatus, and sliders in the carbs, and capped the hole. I can't believe how difficult it is to start these bikes in the cold without a choke. Maybe I should have kept the choke on there. I just thought it was too cluttered on the bar and didn't think that I really needed it.

Hey there Martin,
I'm curious about the tires you put on. I need to get a set of tires for my Commando and over here in the States, most places seem to be out of stock. Did you put the same tire size on both the front and back? I was looking for the stock size 100/90/19 or 4.10/19 for both front and back. Is that what you put on?

I just put on Avon Roadrider MKII 100 / 90 / 19 front and back .. For me they work great .. Walridge Motors Ontario Canada

Ron, lucky you. I can't seem to find those here in the USA. Those have been recommended to me many times, but none to be had around here.

Hi I fitted Bridgestone BT 46 and I also had to wait 6 months for the rear which is not stock 4.00x18 but I have the required entry in the papers so is OK.

Hope you get fixed up,

Martin

Pulled the crank apart on an 850 build I'm doing. Cleaned it all out and back together. Now to check the end float. Then everything out to get balanced.

Michelin Pilot Active or Bridgestone BT 45, but did hear that the rear BT was very hard to get?

Best

As UK dwellers will be aware we've had a few days of lovely fine weather. Had a couple of: 'Social, Domestic and Pleasure' journeys to make so a few hours charge on the battery and the Norton did me proud :-)
Dual carriageway or town centre stop/start (30mph speed cameras... Grrrrrr!), never once did I feel compromised by my transport choice, though getting lost was frustrating!
No pics 'cos my mate has a garden full of Triumphs..

Commandos? Gotta love 'em :-)
