When I worked at N-V Wolverhampton, my commuter bike was a company 650SS with about 130,000 miles on the odometer. On one occasion, I hadn't ridden it for about 10 days (a vaction break) and when I checked the oil level before I started riding it again, it was ridiculously low.
I wasn't aware of the sumping issue and poured another quart into the tank. Needless to say, a short while into my daily ride there was a lot of oil being sprayed around. You live and learn!
Even though I haven't ridden on the street for nigh on 50 years, I'd love to have that old works "hack" in the garage. I rode about 45 miles each way to work for the first 8 months, before we bought a house closer to Wolverhampton than where we lived in Kenilworth. It was all country lanes, except for the last few miles of divided highway. It made going to work a real pleasure.
I'll post a photo in a day or two, showing my two daughters sitting on the bike. They are now 47 and 44! Where does the time go?
