Update on 961

Haha! Good question about support for the Norty in Paradise (We ride year round, rain or shine). SouthBay Cali's crew will honor any warranty maintenance requirement via SouthSeas Triumph Hawaii. Got my Bonnie from SouthSeas and worked that out before making that "investment" for a Norty standard. BTW, when I called Norton in WA I also asked whoever answered the phone to email me about ordering a 961 thru them. I got absolutely nothing from them, I have to assume the 1 bike they received may be the only bike they plan on getting 8)

Don't you only have two seasons there, rain or shine?

Yes Sir, unlike our poor Brit cousins (Rain or Cloudy - during the summer months) we also have only 2 options when it comes to the weather

I was thinking bench seat, also. None of those models look comfortable or practical, for me. I am sure they are wonderful bikes, but probably won't fit my needs.

I'm with you on this one Squarehead, I sincerely hope Garner does ONE thing right and brings back the Hi Rider.

Update on 961

Excellent PhotoShop work, there's a similiar bike for sale on ebay as we type :p No offense to the tradionalist, but it kinda looks toy-ish.

Excellent PhotoShop work,

Thanks, I actually just banged it out pretty quickly. Since it got so much attention I went back and cleaned it up a bit on my coffee break. Your quote shows the 1st version.

Thanks RennieK, for the next version, please could you airbrush me about 10" taller, cut off about 20lbs, bring the hairline forward and oh, change my Triumph T Shirt to a Norton :)

Yes it is photoshop or similar, I think that it might be a bit too retro for the guys who currently run Norton.

Norton Brought out the Fastback as a very 'modern' design to show off the isolastic stuff, I understand that the Fastback design was not universaly approved of. As a 13 year old I thought it was great.

The name of the guy who did it is at the bottom of the picture

Here we are years later from the last post in this thread. August 2013 and we Yanks are still waiting for the 961. Canada just got their shipment in recently and the first 50 Norty's to the USA will soon be here. I got my deposit in time to make it on the Five-0 list, which is appropriate for the only Hawaiian that made it on the list. My order is with the largest and first new age Norton distributor in the USA, SouthBay Triumph/Norton in California. I called the Washington state dealership and they received their first bike (one each) last week. The U.S. models are being designed to meet EPA requirements that will qualify them for distribution to every state. Information from the mechanic at the California shop produced interesting intel. The U.S. bikes have more than emission control mods, all known bugs from Euro models have been squashed. Norton, working with the USA distributor are working towards making the bike bullet proof. Norton acknowledged that when it comes to marketing and numbers, America is their golden child. Keep an eye on this thread Brit brothers and sisters.....I'll be back.

12 Sep 2013 - Update, a Washington dealer representative called shortly after the post above was made, they are taking pre-orders and deposits at this time. A little too late but glad they called.

I did pick up an older Norton this past weekend via eBay, the shipping cost from Mississippi to Hawaii is crazy, but how else are we to get one, Eh?

Starting at $21,014.00 :([/quote]

That's just crazy............For a motorcycle with an unproven dealer network, reliability, resale and a manufacturer that may or may not succeed with it's product.

That kind of money will buy you a new Ducati Panigale or a new Triumph Thruxton/Bonneville AND a Tiger 800 or a new Goldwing or a new HD Electraglide....I could go on and on with the possibilities. I know that I'm comparing apples to oranges here. Is Mr. Garner trying to recoup all of his development and tooling costs in the first year?

I think that you will find that ther will be a lot less Nortons sold in the US than Pangales. That's what you are paying for. SH ones are asking prices similar to new in the UK

Im not ordering but seems to me that it is on par with Harley and such.
20k isnt what it used to be. You can easily have 10k in an old Norton.
Easily.

oh boy, is that ever true, I have much more than that into mine

I don't get the cheap shots at Norton from those seemingly wanting to criticize and see them "fail"

no one is forcing anyone to buy a new Norton

Norton never said they would offer it at a price that you an afford

and Norton has the best business model going for them, very strong demand with limited production,
nothing but blue sky ahead as the US market slowly gets bikes and sells them right away

No disrespect or attempt to start a debate, but you'll need another 8K or so to even get close to get a Paniagle off the showroom floor ....DAMHINT.
