Thruxton R details

The dealer called to say the bike isn't ready yet and they don't know when they will get to it. A couple of hours later I received an email from them as part of a mass sales mail out. It was an invite to come down to their store today between 11 and 4 to sit on one of the new Thruxton Rs and discuss purchasing options with sales staff. In the email there was a photo of several freshly uncrated Rs parked in front of their shop!!!

Hmmmmm!

Glen

So, according to the email, the dealer is going to allow other strangers to sit on your recently uncrated "R"?
I would immediately go down to the dealer and provide him a right thrashing.
Well, at least a nasty tongue lashing.

Well that didn't go well. The bike is sitting right out front with 3 other Thruxton R s and about twenty other bikes. I walked up, checked the vin and had a sit on it, then walked in the store. Got a blank look and a "May I help you" from the fellow I bought the bike from.Guess I haven't been in there since making the order 5 months ago, so to be expected.
They wouldn't release the bike to me as it has not been "PDI'd" yet.
I've posted this on the Triumph site under "Has anyone else per ordered a Thruxton R at International Motorsports?"
Triumph scans that site so they may pick up on it.

I'm having a little trouble busting my bike out of there. My Thruxton R came into their dealership with several others yesterday morning. I called to see if it would be ready for pickup sometime that day and was told that it was still crated and probably wouldn't be ready until sometime Wednesday(today).Yesterday evening , as part of a mass mailout, I received an email invite to " Come check out the all new Thruxton R at our location between 11am and 4 pm Wednesday April 20. We have sales people on hand to answer questions and take deposits" Attached to the email was a photo showing several Thruxton Rs parked in front of their sign.

I went down there this morning with riding gear planning to ride the bike home. My bike ( I have the VIN from Triumph) was parked out front, so I thought great, I'll be on it and riding shortly. The salesman informed me that none of the bikes have been PDI'd yet and he didn't know when that could happen, not for some time. He suggested I talk with the Service Manager to find out when it would be ready. The part guys ( who are always friendly) directed me toward the Service manager who was about twenty feet away behind a little counter. Right away I sensed that something was amiss. In a happy shop there would have been contact between them to shuffle the customer over, but they seemed to want no contact with him. For good reason.

.When I approached him it appeared he was ticked off, but not knowing him, I thought perhaps that was just his normal manner. When i explained that i had pre-ordered one of the Thruxton Rs back in November and that the Salesman had suggested I get an estimated time for pickup, he broke eye contact and said in a very unfriendly tone "You are not supposed to talk to me"He then marched out to where the sales staff are, presumably to give my Sales guy a dressing down. My sales guy had temporarily left the building so a big confrontation did not happen. There were a few choice words spoken to the 2nd Salesman, then the Service Man turned and left the room, no further eye contact or words with me.Very strange!

When I got home I called the Salesman, who still couldn't give me a firm time for pickup but suggested it would be 'at least two days from now" I did tell him that he has a very unfriendly Service Manager. We all know that the Dealer prep on an uncrated bike is not much of an affair, maybe an hour? of work, but they seem determined to use that to hold onto the bikes. That's the sense I get from it anyway. Maybe something else is at the root of it. Anyway, I won't be getting it for a few days, but i can go down along with the general public, kick the tires , hop on it and pre order another one!Doesn't seem right after a five month wait. It certainly has taken some fun out of the process.

That's woeful Glen. Does the place not have a sales manager you can talk to? Owner? An adult of some kind?

I suspect the decision to hang onto the bikes is coming from the owner. The salesman seemed kind of sheepish about the whole thing.

Glen

I can guarantee you that all the Thruxtons at Cascade Moto Classic that were paid for left that day.

What is PDI? Is that a Canadian thing?

Basically it is dealer prep consisting of uncrating the bike ( done) , putting some gas in it, putting acid in the battery, and downloading the Triumph engine map via a laptop. They should also check the oil and coolant, but I believe those are already in the bikes.

Glen

Batteries are sealed. Oil is probably already in the bike. Gas and go. Engine map is already in bike unless there is a Canadian version.

Something is fucky up north.

My guess is they removed the battery to charge it. AGM are sealed. I bet they plugged it into the computer just to record it had been there.

One hour tops.

Glen I would be making a complaint to Triumph HQ about this dealership they should not be showing your bike or letting others sitting on it or having a open day with your bike as part of the show, let them know you aren't happy about it, I know I wouldn't be happy with the treatment you have got and waiting all this time, if it's sitting outside, when they uncreated a bike it's normally one at a time and they finish it off first before they start on the next one, that way they don't forget to do things, well that's how a good shop works.

My guess is they have oversold their consignment and have not figured out how to make up the difference. Why else would they be screwing paying customers around? It's the only thing that even comes close to making sense.

Triumph is only giving the dealers the bikes with deposits so in order to get new customers who didn't preorder they want to have a bike to show off.

Sonyou could almost blame Triumph for not making enough for the dealers to stock.
