Thruxton R details

But, being something of an old fart, I do think the R looks a tad too bling from some angles.

I have the same feeling.
I love the green color that the standard Thrux comes in.
Though the R does look slicker than snake snot, I prefer the RWU forks and gaiters on the standard Thrux.
They are not tunable like the R's USD units, but have damper cartridges so they will be better that the originals supplied on the old air cooled models.
If needed, the cartridges can be replaced with Bitubo or Mantis units.
I have Bitubo units on my T100, they are fantastic.

For me, as long as the Standard model comes with the same motor as the R (96 HP), and I have the option of the race kit, I'm interested.

Stay tuned.

Well,it definitely comes with the same motor. Not sure about the race kit fitment though, details on that seem scarce at present.

Re the forks, that's why I'd like to see a good test of the stock Thruxton. I am a believer that unless the rider is way outside the 95 percentile, huge adjustability is not necessary for most riders. In fact, many riders probably cock their suspension up by incorrect adjustments! If the forks and shocks are of good quality, they should be good enough for me I reckon.

What did Matt do to this page, all I can see is the underside of a fuel tank complete with crappy welds?

Bike is due in the store next Saturday according to Triumph. They promised delivery on or around April 15 when ordered in November, well done Triumph!

So the delivery schedule is a wee bit more reliable than Norton?

I'm not in suspense waiting for your ride report any more Glen because I know what its going to be like...

Its going to be a glowing report about how utterly fantastic it is, just like every other report of this bike!

The so called negative comments in any of the reports are real nit picking stuff.

I think all this glowing praise it has got me beat... I think BMW may have just lost a sale...

Nit picky is right. The only two negative comments I have read were identical- that Triumph erred by having the bike go back into road mode each time it is shut off. The testers found it annoying that they had to touch the button once per trip in order to get the nitrous boost of Sport mode.
Now that is tough! These wimps need to come and try kickstarting my 1360.

Glen

Worse than that Glen, some have complained that their knees don't fit into the tank knee indents properly. Must be a disaster!

Glen, shall we go halves on a large batch of Thiaumph T shirts...?

I'll let you know for sure after the 16th. I must be careful talking this thing up. What is the Pony Club saying? I believe it is " Pride goes before a fall" Might be a bit late to worry on that one though:)

Yes, years more reliable!
Now the hope is that the bikes will be as reliable as the ordering/delivery process has been.
I see some of the T120 s are experiencing fairly severe throttle lag (2-3 seconds) and there is already a fix in place. Strange that with all of the months and miles of road testing problems can still show up in the marketplace.

No problems with the Thruxtons as yet, but there are only a few being ridden in Oz at the moment.

Some of the reviews of the T120 mentioned the throttle lag.

I popped in to the local BMW dealer with my girls, just to see if the fit OK on the pillion of a R nine T. I still like them. Got a surprise, thanks to Triumph (I assume) the dealer was throwing a large discount into the conversation before I'd even pushed hard!

T120s and Thruxtons are launched here in UK next Saturday (23rd April) according to my local Triumph shop. I'll definitely be going along for a look-see.

Our dealer just got their first one yesterday. Lot of people going to be finger-f*cking it today. Glad it's not mine.

My Thruxton R is supposed to be here on Tuesday according to Triumph Customer Service. They have even given me a VIN number. Apparently I was the 119 th person worldwide to order one of these although I think that figure includes all new Bonneville ordered, not just the Thruxton Rs.
So I was weak early on.
The dealer still doesn't have much shipment info and seems to be relying on me to provide him with shipping updates via Triumph USA.
On Friday I weakened further and ordered the fairing plus some nifty looking quick release Oval panniers that look as though they will also work on the Egli and possibly the Commando.

The Thrux is gonna make it mighty difficult for South Bay to sell copies of their $30,000 street tracker.

Hi Nigel, yes today is the expected delivery date.
Beautiful sunshine is in the forecast (5 am here right now) and my riding gear is ready to go.
But it's limited rpm for the 500 mile break-in so the riding excitement will be somewhat muted.
Gonna see if I can get that 500 miles done quickly. Like maybe tomorrow

That and the problem of how South Bay is going to sell a Norton 961 when this big, fast, good looking Triumph is out there for about 10 k less and ( most likely) without all the troubles.
I do not expect to write my own fix it manuals or figure out how to re-attach the starter ring gear before it kills me!

Glen

Did you get it, did you get it, I don't know about you Glen but the excitement is killing me and it's not even my bike, there's nothing better than walking into a shop to pick up your new bike and the ride home with a big smile on your face or going around to your mates places to show it off, I have been following you on the Triumph Rat site as well since you ordered your new Thruxton R.

Ashley

Hi Ashley

Oh yes the Triumph site. There is one very nasty piece of work there named Scotty, but as happens here the moderator will eventually deal with him. The rest are a pleasant bunch.

I called the dealership first thing this morning and was told it is there along with seven other various type new Bonnies, all still crated. They could not give me a time frame for the "build" as they call it. Busting open the crate would better describe it, but they do require two hours per machine and seem to be busy with silly other things like repairing and servicing lesser motorcycles!
They promised they will call when it's ready. It's 3 pm here now so looking very iffy for today.

Should I take my claw hammer and gas can down there to help things along?
