New to the forum. Just acquired my winter project, a barn find 75 commando. The handle bar switch clusters are rough and was wondering if they are the same as T160 Triumph electric start? Does anyone make better aftermarket switches that will fit up to the stock master cylinder? :?:

They can be disassembled and cleaned.
Be careful when taking apart there are small springs and ball bearings that can pop on the floor.

The sparx after market type are available but the starter button looks like a jellybean Triumph t140 are same just have to cut hole for starter button

Welcome.. Where are you from? eg Continent and we love photo's

Parts new for Nortons are easy to find and trouble is there are too many to choose from.. Dont forget to use the "SEARCH" button on top r/h conner of this screen. Plenty of olfart's around here who have done the homework over the years..

When you find a part you want, ask the question here, cos it has been bought before.

These 2 suppliers do mostly original part replacement and some modded parts. IMO have very good reputation..

From Southeast USA. The left cluster has a crack from the clutch handle bolt hole and the right one is corroded. Thanks for the links to part suppliers. I sorted out a Triumph Trident 2 winters ago and used LP Williams with good success in acquiring parts. Was hoping to find a Norton supplier with similar inventory.

If you do a search you will find lots of suppliers for Norton parts. The two OldChris gave are two of the most well known and have most anything you might need.

There are differing opinions on switch gear replacements. The ones that L.A.B. linked you to have been described by some as of questionable quality although they look original. One issue that you will need to consider is whether you plan to upgrade your front brake as the stock MC has a design issue with the piston being too large to get good grab on the front brake. There are a number of different ways to address this, with sleeve kits or replacing the MC with another smaller piston unit. If you opt for the later it could impact the switch gear you choose. You may want to investigate the brakes before deciding on switch gear...it also sounds like you need new levers and perches also.

I chose to upgrade the switch gear, MC and levers to 2014 Triumph Bonneville America because it solved all the issues in one shot, but this requires the bars be increased to 1" and is a slippery slope since it required new billet triple trees (yokes) and led me down a path that required all new components for the front forks...very expensive and not sure I would recommend this approach unless you are planning a complete rebuild and upgrade of the bike.

Welcome to the fun and craziness of the Commando. :D
