I am going to run a Mikuni 34mm single carb on this standard 750 motor.. I have the same carb on my 75/850 with a K&N "washable" filter (Symetrical/concentric)....which works and is OK but cant find any part numbers on it. I have searched ebay hi n lo for a "offset" filter that can be hung toward the low side...... Anybody got a part number or link to veiw that will suit this carb.. It has a 57/58 mm OD inlet side... :D :D :D Thanks

olChris,
I've run these K&N air filters on the 34mm Mikuni set up on my bikes but the original air cleaner back plate needs to be removed as it will interfere because they are too thick to fit with it on.
K&N RU-0650 140mm round air filter with an offset flange with 57mm flange inside diameter.
K&N RU-3780 Tapered offset flange cone air filter with a 62mm flange diameter. Clamp tightens it up nice and not hard to put on and off.
They both work good but I liked the RU-3780 better as it fit in and doesn't rub or interfere with anything and the tip sits high enough that it misses the battery box and ends inside the battery area but has never gave me battery mounting room problems either. You can check these out on the K&N website.

Thanks for the leads.. Think i will go the RC 3780.. Has an off centre ability so i can rotate and has 50mm thickness (+a bit of mounting flange) which will fit (?)..

I rebuilt my MK3 and 80% of this 72 Commando so far and have "just" realised how inapppropriately big the battery carrier in the 72 is... Makes me think about pulling it out and shorten it by 40 - 50 mm (really only need "just" a battery) so a modified standard air filter will be suitable. Meaning i can get it off and on without all the hassle.. :D :D :D

My MK2A has plastic covers under the instrument pods to keep the rain out.

I guess that you have MK3 style pod which have a recess/moulding to suit "plastic" covers as per link... I got a pair of those (long pods 4 sale) that dont suit the short instruments that i have... MK2A may well have been endowered with long pods as per what was fitted to MK3... Im not sure, but others will know and chuckle to themselves

Bit of a dodgy photo but this is the interstate side cover that will be used... I am not using a standard air cleaner on my 72 and am not sure where to "fix" the ignition switch.. I have seen a few pics here and there where the ignition switch is located forward of the side cover on a bracket that im unfamiliar with or maybe attached to the frame,or is in the recess that can be seen in the fibreglass side cover..........

Some interstate covers (all) that i have seen on OLBrtis site dont have the recess......... Soooooooooooo where is the correct place to secure the "new" harness and ignition switch that is expected next week... :D :D :D

It May Be ' C ' . or go to the Hobby Store , if they still have them , and get a length of 16 guage music wire , and make one . If you have a vice , a few nails or a pair of good needle nose pliers .

Hi Chris,
Murray at Cyclecraft Engineering in Welshpool has these and anything commando you require.

Seems there a always issues with wiring, with my 72 included... Thankfully all is new but my "partial" colour blindness of red, blue, brown green has me reworking wires by the elimination process.. Completed today all lighting indicators, brake, and horn functions.. Tommorow is kill switch, ignition... Getting close to giving it a kick....

The dzus "S" spring's p/n is S4-200. I guess the "S" stands for spring and the 4 stands for a 1/4 inch diameter stud and the -200 is the height in inches. It is actually .200 of an inch. Aircraft Spruce and Specialty sells these for 42 cents each. That is the cheapest I could find, here is a link:
http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/springs2.php

You may also consider getting a S4-225 dzus "S" spring - it is a little bit taller (.225 inches high), so the dzus will snap in tighter. These are 52 cents each. At those prices I would get both sizes.

What a PITA the centre stand spings are. There was nothing from stopping my "start" it today until it had to be on the ground, obviously requiring a stand... But that has consumed most of my day with one idea and another.

There is obviously a well kept secret to fitting these springs.. I remembered that my Mk3 was a pain also, but couldnt remember how i did it ... But for the DIY bloke it always gets resolved eventually... On the floor now and is sparked and fueled up so tommorow is the day.......

GGrrrrrrrrrrrrr     Yep i can see how that would work.... Tho it took me several hours to fit the top of the spring to the cradles Grrrrrrrr.. But it all a learning curve :D :D :D :D
