I Feel Done (and It's Really Strange.)

I was thinking that my grey mood might be a result of a lack of sleep. I finally got a good night's sleep last night. We have been having sever storms that have moved through in the wee hours of the morning for several days. The dog freaks out and makes sleep nearly impossible. I feel a lot better today. Rode the Norton to the gym and got a decent workout. The storms produced heavy rain and hail which necessitated a new roof for the house, beat the heck out of my car and broke the windshield in my truck. It could have been worse because the tornado(s) missed us.
I Feel Done (and It's Really Strange.)

Things are meant to grow, bear fruit, and then plant the seeds for the next generation. That is the natural cycle of life. It's rewarding to help people who are new to things to see the goals ahead and to encourage and assist them to achieve the goals which you have behind you...
I think all 3 of my sons have a fair rudimentary understanding of mechanics, are familiar with tools, and willing to "give it a go", BESIDES all being proficient motorcyclists for their age group. Oldest daughter rides with us, but doesn't ride, younger daughter rides but can't wrench.

All of our grandkids ride with us. One granddaughter will only ride with me or my wife.

A ride on a motorcycle and a good gym session does WONDERS for one’s state of mind (the gym more so than the ride IMO).

I’ll add a different perspective to the encouraging points already posted…

If you really are ‘done’ with fixing up old motorcycles, just think about all that spare money and spare time you’re gonna have with which to enjoy life with !!

You’re not ‘done’… you’re CURED… !!!

Last winter I thought I might as well sell off the fleet as I was losing interest. It was a very late start to the season
this year but once I got out I was fine and had a good ride.
You have to get out and ride. Home repair has taken up most of my time lately but if it would stop raining Id get
that done and get on with more riding. Being retired you just don't have a lot of free time. :-)

I was working somewhere in rural MO 20 years ago, storm came, I stood in the open bay door of the metal shop, watched that big hale punch out all the glass, and golf ball smash every panel of the rented Monte Carlo. 🫣
It was a breezy drive back🤣😜💨

When you were in the gym talking to the gym instructor and the lovely 20year old walked past, and you said to the instructor, which machine should I use to impress her , and he replied probably the ATM over there 🤣🤣🤣.

I talked to the roofing guy. He said we got lucky. Some people in the area got softball sized hail (size of a large orange or grapefruit.) He sad it came all the way through the roof and decking, broke out windows and smashed walls on that side of the house. A few homes were totaled after the wind and water damage. But they are building 2 high-end computer chip plants not more than two miles from my house. I wonder if weather ever came up as a consideration in their plans?

Oh. . . I did take the Norton out yesterday and it was nice. It's lashing down rain today so the niceness has stopped.

Some solar power farms are taking a beating from hail, and the wind power farms are even worse. Those blades can't be repaired, even after a single BIRD STRIKE. After that, they just bury them in the desert; can't even recycle the materials...

We've not had catistrophic weather up our way but it's been cold and windy so the incentive to ride has waned. Still, I muck about with the bikes. The latest project has been a pristine '88 Goldwing that needs a rear master cylinder kit. Halfway into digging for the master cyl ( about 3 hours) I thought, "Why am I doing this? I can't ride it when I'm done (hips), can't sell it or even give it away to the local bike museum." So I've decided to junk it.

That leads to the thoughts of selling the whole fleet while I still have marbles enough to do that. It would make my wife happy. But then what would I do? Don't golf, hiking is painful, bicycling is scary and also hurts my hips.

Maybe a trip to the gym to sign up. That might be the key to the way out of a low point in life. Might improve my hips. Then I could ride my favorite Commando. Yes, that's it! A trip to the gym. Then there's all the impossibly fit yound ladies to watch out of the corner of my eye. Thanks for the suggestion on the gym.

Yoga pants are amazing , they'll get most of us going .

Re : hailstorms.
Rode my ST 1300 to a doctor appointment a few years back - an hours ride mostly on the Garden State Parkway. Limited access toll road , 2/3 lanes tree lined , one way traffic. July late afternoon. Came to a section where heavy road construction was being done .
Potholes, rubble , no shoulder and fenced in by temporary concrete barriers . Sky got black and the mother of all t storms appeared . Traffic moving along at 60-70 mph and nothing to do but move with it . Thank goodness for the electric windscreen. Peering over the top edge of the windscreen , thumbing the switch up and down to see over it . Scariest motorcycle event I have ever been involved with ( including being taken out by a teenage girl coming into my lane. ) Then it started to hail - marble sized stones .
The roadway was covered with the equivalent of ball bearings.
By good fortune the weather cleared rapidly, the sun came out and no harm done . Or so I thought . When I got to the doctor’s office and checked in the receptionist was staring at me and she asked what happened to my face . I looked in a mirror and saw I was covered with raised red welts the size and color of pennies from the hailstones. The ride was so intense and required so much focus that I never felt a thing . The brain is a powerful thing at times .

None of us mentioned the age of our wives, let's blame them for our lack of intrest. I say we should trade them in for a newer model!!! Never mind I don't have time to train a new one.

I've done that twice so far
I'd stick with the original model tbh 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have lived in fear of getting stuck with a bike. I sold my Triumph not because it wasn't cool and I didn't like it but because I had no use for it. I would ride it around the neighborhood out of guilt and that's a poor reason to do something you love. At least I like riding the Norton and it is as reliable as any bike I could get so it stays in the garage (plus my son would have a fit if I let it go.) Selling the bike gave me some cash and cash equals the ability to explore other options

I go to the gym at least three times a week. I have made some friends there. It makes me get out of the house and do something and I have developed an exercise regimen that works for me. I do at least 20+ minutes on the exercise bike with some advanced settings. Then I do three sets each of various upper body machines. The whole thing takes a little over an hour and I do feel better afterward (but sometimes I really hate getting there.) I do a series of leg presses because I want to be able to get out of chairs. I take it very easy on the overhead press (very light weight) because I can feel my joints protesting and I do not want to hot-rod them around. As for young ladies at the gym, they are there but at my age the older ladies are often more interesting and friendly.

The more I see of modern women the more I treasure my wife and realize what a lucky sod I am. I married her for all the wrong reasons (she was damn cute) and my folly has been repaid with an amazing marriage, two great kids, a great companion and one who is still as cute as the day I first saw her over 45 years ago. In all of our time together she has never once griped about my bikes.

I’m sure you know this already, but…

Unless you’re under 40, keep it light (ish) slow, and focus on technique. The more you focus on technique the harder the exercise becomes, but only for all the right reasons. It’s the best way to keep muscles healthy and strong, whilst avoiding injury.

Is this newer model wife advice
Or gym exercise advice
Or both?😁
